This was one of my favorite threads so I thought I'd revive it and add some of my projects.

Great bump. I was hoping to be the one to revive this thread with pictures of the furniture I'm building for my son. Hopefully I'm done painting and staining it this week. He is scheduled to make his arrival September 7th. I last posted in this thread for the nursery furniture i built for my daughter.

Great looking projects, btw.

Damn sure is heavy work not intended for the faint of heart.

Yep, when lifting them in place with the help of my son and SIL, the ladder I was standing on clasped crushing my left hand.

Overall, they are aging real nice.

Is that chicken coop attached directly to your house? If so, your wife must really love those chickens.

No, it's attached to my shop. Some stray dogs got into our previous run (old dog kennel) and killed all of our first flock. I wanted to make this one nicer and more secure.

Had something similar happen with me and a cousin many years ago when opening up an old shotgun double to convert it into a Drs. office. We were climbing up the ladders, each of us on opposite ends of a 16 ft. beam made from three treated 2 x 12's and his ladder gave way.

That beam took of both off our ladders and I was unscathed, but he had that beam pin him to the ground, breaking a couple ribs. He was lucky that was all that happened.

I followed the link you supplied in a prior post. That was a nasty injury on the top of your hand. I like how you salvaged and reused that one piece of the old building and incorporated it into the new structure.

The slab looks to be about 1 1/2 inches thick, but it is real hard to tell with the way they are arranged along the wall. Should be nice once you get it level and sanded.

Are you planning to remove the bark but leave the contoured edge? Looks to me with the way the bark is pretty rough and fuzzy, it will need to be done for a more finished look.

How dry is your slab? Seal the ends with some paint if the slab is NOT dried. That will help the slab not to check/crack on the ends. Once dried, you can just saw off a 1/4".

2.5 thick. definitely gonna remove the bark and sand the live edge.

ill seal the ends if need be, but I've got to get my measurement of how long i want the table to be before i cut it down and seal.

I've read a lot, but still not sure how i want to finish the cedar top. i actually built all my countertops and did them with boiled linseed oil and they look really good. was wondering on the same

A homemade Lsu all aluminum bbq pit. I actually did a little, a welder friend at work did most of it. Smaller version of the one at Lsu football ops. And an aluminum cart for 2 water coolers for football.

DON'T do that. Used a steel brush and brush with the grain. That will remove the bark.

Can work, but if you want a very deep shine, epoxie works great.

This is a live edge pine bench I built using a brush to clean the edge.

yea I've read about that and wire wheels to remove the bark, i actually meant sanding it once the bark was removed. the guy i got it from told me he uses a pressure washer to move the bark on all his projects. he had a bunch of stuff going and it all looked pretty good.

i built my bar tops by hand and poured epoxy over them, i definitely agree with you, but for this one, i don't really need that deep slick shine, just something thats just functional and maybe a wee bit more rustic/natural, why i was thinking the oil might be nice. either that or a nice minx poly

Built my daughter an activity table and chairs.

Also working on some mahogany bottle openers. This is my prototype I threw together.

And finally, a walnut coffee table.
