#1 & #2 cylinders are shot. Motor is a 08 225 VMax. Any recommendations or advice about re-power? My initial thoughts are to find another similar motor (as in year and model) and keep my old one for parts.

Personally I would buy/finance a new 250 and don’t look back as long as you like the boat

Can you be more specific? Low compression could be a bunch of different things. Unless there is a hole in the block you're not telling us about.

These motors are generally pretty easy to rebuild.

Also pieces of the piston were in spark plugs. 110 compression on other 4 cylinders

why I wont pay more than 1k for a bike. They are just too limited-use an item. I wont pay more than 2k for a 4-wheeled vehicle, either, and then only for a van, cause I can save that much every 2 years,by sleeping in it instead of in motel rooms.

Have you seen the claim that gas is going to keep dropping in price, cause electric cars are going to take over, and gas cars are going to get cheaper and cheaper? the claim was by 2024. i say that they are fos and off by at least 5 years, probably never happen at all.

why? cause you ignorant twits say so? What I said is factual. Bikes are very limited use items, anyone can see that, even a little kid. It's almost always raining, too hot, too cold, too buggy to ride one, on top of being quite likely to get killed by some bozo in a car who didn't see you. When they quit you, the big ones are hell to push very far, especially with a flat tire. yet they are easily stolen by anyone with a pickup or van and a 2x12 that's a mere 8 feet long. Bum deal all around, really, unless it' a combo off road 450, for 1k or or less. 300 lbs or less. Then you CAN push it by yourself, it CAN go off road, it is available for 1k in good used condition and is thus no big thing when it blows up, gets wrecked or stolen, which we all know is highly likely to occur

about what? Cars are just for hauling stuff and people. Why spend more than you have to on them? then have to pay outrageous amounts to insure them, pay interest to buy one, watch the value drop on a new one by thousands of $ every year? What's fun about commuting? put that money in something that makes you money, so you can soon stop having to commute, or work at all. I haven't had to hit a lick in decades. Just shoot, hunt, fish, backpack/camp, travel, play on the net. The only real work i do is with a progressive reloader, about 50 hours a year, and setting up the casting gear for the kid to turn out a year's supply of bullets over the thanksgiving weekend. I put in my 20 years, that's it.

Someone starts a thread about options for a blown outboard and you go on a rant about not buying a motorcycle because someone might run you over? Go somewhere else troll.

I got a 05 225 Vmax that I have been thinking about selling. What boat did you have your motor on?

This thread went sideways real quick... Tks for the re direct.

I found a 13 250 vmax sho with 580 hours for 5k. Comes with 1 yr warranty. I like the idea of less oil consumption in the newer 4 strokes, but I have always had a soft spot for the 2 strokes

I would price out rebuild versus a new or nice used motor.
Then once you got a price you can decide which way is financially comfortable for you to go.
