10-4. There’s an old oxbow near my office that’s shallow. Grass dies back but it’s still visible during winter. There’s some carp in there but not pond (diploid) grass carp.
N La.
I know LDWF destroyed a few bass lakes with those carp.

I will say that I am lucky with mine that I have some buckbrush and old fallen trees to give the young bass and bream cover.

As I recall, the carp were supposed to be sterile,
they weren’t.

Your pond is bad-arse. I would take those carp out though. They will destroy most of the aquatic vegetation along the shorelines which are good for your young fish to escape predators.

you could rent an otter they will eat the hell out of them

They will remove all your vegetation over time, then starve. Great for bow fishing

so it sounds like the general consensus on here is i need to get rid of them.
also have a ton of blue gill as well so i hate to kill them too.

do a test shock as i suggested. you'll get an idea of what you actually have in your pond

I've heard of people putting sterile grass carp in their ponds to clean up the pond weed. Do you know if they are sterile or are reproducing? I actually need a few for my half acre pond.

not sure. the owner of this house died and the heirs who live out-of-state were just trying to dump it and make a quick buck off the nashville real estate market so we didn't get any information at all about it. we didn't even know we had an irrigation system until 2 months after we had moved in.
if it matters, the pond is actually fed from a spring and there's a dam at the far end where the overflow runs into the harpeth river.
i think the constant movement of water (although it did dry up last summer) may have something to do w/ the pond ecology and not needing a fountain.
but i'm way out of my depth here as usual

Bait with a cherry tomato and get ready for a fight. Too many can destroy vegetation to where your fish can’t hide from predator fish. About 10 per acre is I think the general recommendation for heavy weed control.

as for not being sterile pretty sure fertile grass carp are illegal, get with your state biologist to get some real advice.

Cattails and saw grass sure but I would not recommend putting Lillie pads in a pond.

Sounds like poisoning the carp won't exactly be "legal."

Get some floating food. Shoot with
Shotgun.
