I know they're two different types of big cats but have any of you seen any of these cats in Louisiana?

"Panther" refers to three different big cats: Cougars, Leopards and Jaguars. A "Black Panther" is a black variant of a Leopard or Jaguar. They do exist, they just aren't native to Grant Parish.

I know the OB generally gets a laugh out of the same mountain lion picture going around.

But, I can't be the only one that has heard that insanely creepy cry/growl in the woods at night?

Now I don't know what makes the sound, but I know I'm a pretty big ol' boy who's every instinct said to gtfo.

If someone can tell me what it is, I'd feel a bit better.

Also, the guy three houses up raises barbado goats and has a 6ft fence. Kept having goats disappear. Put up a game camera, and... I'd have a damned hard time saying it wasn't a small cougar dragging the goat over the fence.

There is most likely a mountain lion or two hanging around Louisiana somewhere. They range far and could come from Oklahoma or Texas easily.

A black panther would mean a pet/captive jaguar got loose.

Kinda like UFOs in my opinion...90% of people carry HD video recorders on their person 24 hours a day, yet nobody has ever recorded good, clear footage of said Panthers/UFOs?

Eta: this is for BLACK panthers. I'm sure there are a handful of mountain lions somewhere in the state.

I heard what I know was a cougar, a 4 legged tawny colored I would think, off the Calcasieu River years ago while hog hunting, i.e. just walking the logging roads listening for hogs.
Myself and a buddy were walking out of the woods right before dark. I had 2 golden retrievers with me that were not hog dogs but I would let them go wth me so they could be out.
As we were getting closer to the Jeep, the dogs starting going crazy smelling something in the thick brush we were walking by.
They started to go into the brush and we heard a roar that definitely was not the high pitched squeal I have heard bobcats make.
This was definitely the sound of a BIG cat! It was a growling roar that got us thinking it was a good time to call the dogs back and get out of the area!
I have never seen one live which includes hunting in west Texas where other members of my hunting club swear they have seen one.
However, I am convinced that there are "mountain lion/cougars" in our area.
I have also heard with no documentaive proof that some were relocated to the area by wildlife officials to help control the hog population. I don't know if how true that might be but the person who told me has family connections to LWF and he claimed it was true.
Interesting though.
