Frank sounds highly intelligent. I’m sure Frank was in that half of the class that made the top half possible.

Yeah, I have unfortunately known (not hunted with) people who will take a shot at any brown patch they see through some bushes, so I sorta kinda get thinking it's a wolf from a distance and taking the shot. But damn, you didn't figure it out while skinning it?

Based on the fact his GF was out bear hunting, and she full bodied that thing by herself, i'm not physically going after her bf regardless of whether he looks tough or not.

Do you need a get out of jail free card for shooting a dog in the middle of the woods? How does that work? Is it out of season? Maybe it was bow only?

Well actually…most states and counties have laws making the shooting of a dog- any dog- an act of animal cruelty. You COULD be charged with the violation if you actually get caught or someone decides to pursue it. And you’d have to have a prosecutor who wants to charge you. Then you’d have to prove if the dog was a threat to you or livestock.

So practically speaking. You can shoot a dog in the woods without recourse. But it’s disingenuous to say there’s no law against it.

Good grief, and the boyfriend just threw gas on the fire with his incoherent profanity filled response. This is just ammo for the anti hunting crowd. This is why I no longer post hunting pics on FB.

I don’t have FB at all, but I’ll occasionally post something on IG. I ain’t never shot no dog and tried to pass it off as a wolf though

Misidentification or not, she’s an idiot and probably shouldn’t be hunting.

I pulled over to check it out and some young guys from in town stopped too. We thought it was a wolf.

They probably weren't from "in town," then.

So she didn't properly identify a target before shooting it. Ranchers and farmers might have a good argument for killing predators to protect their livlihood, but for someone to skin a canine, whether it be a domesticated breed or a full blown wolf, is morbid.

It's weird that you put that in the form of a question. It's even more weird if you skinned a dog.

ETA: Skinning a canine because it is wild is like eating a mustang because it is wild. It's taboo in this country, out of respect for certain roles these species played in mankind.

My neighbor left a skinned dog in my living room one evening after they were done with an anatomy class at the LSU SVM.
I came home, turned the light on and saw a headless, fully sinned dog carcass sitting upright on a chair “holding” a beer can. Note said, “what are you looking at, Jerky?” (Reference to the Jerky Boys).
It was actually pretty funny.
