Going up to buddies place this weekend (Jefferson County). How's it been looking? I think it's a little early for rut, correct?

Rut in Amite is around New Years +, so yeah I think it’s still early for Jefferson

I live and hunt in NW Amite County. The rut is typically between Christmas and New Year. My son killed a nice 8 point on New Years afternoon. It was chasing does along the creek behind the house.

Seen a few small scrapes, and rub this weekend, but still too early for chasing. Decent amount of acorns were dropping with the windy conditions on Saturday.Typical does with yearling hitting the fields, bucks still hanging in the woods.I'm eight miles north of Fayette.

We've seen more bucks than ever before 12/1. Opening day of Youth Gun Season (11/9) we saw 6 bucks. It's been crazy.

They're not chasing but bucks are in the fields with does already in Central MS.

I can't remember a hotter year, at least for early season.

How is it looking in the Poplarvill area? I should be going next weekend. I usually don’t get to go until Jan so I’m hoping it’s a little better.

I hunt Poplarville, have a few small bucks on camera at night, have only seen a spike during the day. My deer are mainly nocturnal... did have two random bucks show up last week, again only seeing them at night on cam. Lots of acorns too. Rut usually gets going after new years.

I am right on the southern edge of Poplarville and that pretty much sums up my place. Maybe twice a week I will get some day time deer pics. This past weekend we only saw a button buck during daylight and two does right at dark.

Best chance for us are hogs as we have quite a few at the moment. Our rut is late December into January so hopefully day time activity ramps up then.

I hunt in Jefferson County, and I've got bad news for you.
Bumper acorn crop is keeping all the deer from moving around. We had 10 hunters in the woods last weekend, and not one deer sighting.

Hunt the hard woods, hope for the best, and bring a hard hat because the acorns are dropping like rainfall.

BTW, two other leases in Jefferson county report the same thing.

I also hunt in poplarville. We usually only catch daytime does until after christmas. Last year we started catching a few different bucks on camera starting around 12/28

Nice, I'm on hwy 53 heading east out of town, past restertown road. Havent had many hogs this year but have one persistent one that keeps showing up and tearing up food plots.

Hoping to get a doe here in the next week or two before the rut starts, have too many on property as it is and need some meat.

Poplarville as well. Only hunted twice this year.
Bow hunt last month saw 2 bucks come out together and then 2 does. All right before dark and all were fighting over the Mobuck stuff my dad threw out.
Box stand over the same plot last Sunday night, 2 does and a yearling came out pretty early.
There’s definitely a lot of acorns around so I would hunt hunt the oaks if you have a stand over them.

Well that doesn’t sound too good for next weekend in P Vill

Buddy has some hogs too, so we plan to deer hunt in the evening, then hang out in the stand switch on the NV and look for them.

Pearl River County has no shortage of hogs that’s for sure. Probably pretty good odds of busting one at night over corn

We have had a few over the years, but not many at all, strange to me but I'll take it. Our old place, a few miles down the road, was basically overrun with them

I am a few miles south of 26 between 43 and hwy 11 and have had at least twenty different ones on camera this year. 2017-2018 had only 4 and shot 2. This year has been crazy. Have one that I think tops 300 lbs. Wallows and rooting all over the place along with pine trees covered in mud.

Any easy to use site to post pictures from phone?
