Wife's dad had a stroke & hasn't been hunting this year. She needed help getting him set up. So he is in my stand, she is in hers, & I'm sitting in a lawn chair on the side of a field. Only way I see a deer is if it's lost or sick. I going to throw out a couple traps & see if they are there tomorrow. I'll check them that evening & report back. I never crawfished that area before. I don't see why they shouldn't be.

crawfish update?
I hunted swamp today and noticed an extraordinary amount of fresh crawfish burrows. They are going down for winter, expect a sharp rise in prices.

Yeah. That would be complete 180 of the flood plan.
I think the biggest change was the opening of the over flow structure way earlier. I'm not 100% percent sure on that though.

Well the crawfish might not be there then. That Mississippi water coming down is cold as hell. All of my crawfishing has been done in the Dugdemona Swamp.

Drove by the old river control complex today and took a little video. The water volume coming through is already pretty impressive.

You are the man. I never thought about posting to YouTube before to post a video link.
Video from the Potato Levee. Potato Levee keeps water out of the Fore Bay, which is the east side of the Morganza Spillway.

Yeah you're not gonna catch anything in there right now for sure. Doubtful that there will be much in there this year anyway. Plus, unless you own land in there or have a portion of it leased, you'll have a "few" issues if there are.

YGM.
Drove up there today. Quite impressive. Still a few cows on the south side but maybe they're not at risk. Should be interesting this week.

Sorry to hear this. My dad/brothers have a camp at/near 3 Rivers and they moved everything out yesterday. I think we're all hoping for the best. Good luck to you.

Don't remember who said it but they said the protocol changed since 2011 and morganza would open first..
Dont think that would ever happen. Morganza effect a hell of alot more than BC does.

& why would they open the Morganza 1st? There has many years the Bonnet Carre was opened that the Morganza wasn't utilized. Not sure on ratio, but I'd imagine it's at least 2 - 1 ratio. It's not like they just make this stuff up as they go.
The CORPS is mandated by Congressional law to open the Bonnet Carre spillway when the flow between Red River Landing and Baton Rouge reaches 1.25 million cfs. The Morganza Spillway is required to be open when the flow reaches 1.5 million cfs.
Ill never say never but I don't think the Morganza will ever be open before Bonnet Carre spillway.
The Bonnet Carre spillway has been opened 11 time including today. The Morganza twice 1973 and 2011. Both of those times the structure was less than half open. In 2011 I think they let about 170000 of the possible 600000 capacity through the Morganza.

That's an awesome video from the potato levee. You can't hear a word though.
I've always been fascinated by just how expansive the river is from its east bank to the gates of Morganza on the other side of the forebay when it's high.

Yeah I messed up on that. 1st time videoing around waves. I could probably take a few guys out there that are interested. If you fall & I'm going to assume that your trying to sue. I'll just shoot you with my 45 & kick you in the river. Haha just kidding haha
