I'm looking for a reasonably priced puppy or a rescue in this particular breed. I wouldn't be opposed to a mix, as long as the dog is around 30-40 pounds max. I figured the OB may have a lead or two. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Update

Thanks to the poster that sent me some info on a lead to a potential pup, we found our dog. We pick him up in two weeks and we couldn't be happier. I will post pictures of the little guy when we get him to the house. The OB is clutch!

Excellent choice! They're great dogs. Mine was $225 from a breeder in defuniak springs, fl. Don't have the name or number anymore but may want to check the Craigslist in that area

I used to hunt a place in NW Missouri and there was this girl that lived next to the outfitters house. She bred those dogs. Very pretty and smart. But loved to roll in cow shite. That's all I remember is those 2 dogs coming in the camp house running around while I'm cooking dinner smelling like cow shite.

A friend of the wife just had a litter, only know because she was trying to show me pictures on Facebook. Will get the info and pass it along.

Mini is just selected down in size the toy is a genetically different. I got two minis from a farm in Noxapater MS. Best two dogs I've ever had. Highly recommend them as a breed.

Are the mini and toy Aussie's similar in personality to the full size ones?

Can't speak to toy Aussies, but a mini Aussie in essence is the same breed as a full size. They're just the product of selecting smaller Australian shepherds and breeding them. It wasn't even recognized as a breed until recently. They're actually called "American Shepherds" now. Mine is a "mini" but she is almost 40 pounds and not overweight. From a personality stand point they are just like a full size Aussie. All dogs have their individual personalities of course, but the same traits are present.

How are these when it comes to shedding or the hair needing grooming/getting knotted up? I have only had short hair dogs but these are pretty cool looking.

Mine shed their coat twice a year in the Fall and Spring otherwise they don't lose that much hair. They are pretty easy to take care of and don't mind a bath.

You got an outlier

Mine sheds quite a bit, but it's not that stick to everything kind of hair. It typically clumps up together in little balls on the floor and it's easy to clean. They will mat if you don't brush them, I run a brush through mine about once a week. She's prone to matting behind her ears and on the outside fur of her back legs. With the weather right now, she has started shedding pretty bad

They're great dogs, but they're nicknamed "Velcro dogs" for a reason. They love their person and some are prone to seperation anxiety. Mine was never destructive and I leave her out in the house all day. When I leave for work she doesn't whine, but if it's a weekend or after work or we're at someone else's house or anything like that, and I walk somewhere that she can't get to me, she cries like a baby. I went fishing a few weeks ago and she was in the backyard in the fence but could still see me at the pond, and she made some howls I had never heard her make before sounded like a wolf in mourning

Ditto, to anyone that has breeder information, even if it means waiting, or having to drive. I've been watching the rescue sites for months, and these guys must be well behaved and not get out often. I really want a mini
