The Sitka Apex Hoody is my absolute favorite and most used piece of hunting clothing I own

First lite zip off base layer is my 2nd favorite

I only have FL wool, and I have every piece they make

I'd start with base layers and go from there

Brand doesn't really matter much. Start with socks and base layer pants and shirts. That's all I have.

The stuff is great but it is not durable. Wash it separately by itself cold and hang dry.

First lite is hands down the best imo. Base layers is all you need. No sense in paying the extra for heavy stuff. Get merino base, and whatever jacket/pants/bib combo you want over it and you are gold. I like having a lightweight merino base for bow/warmer time of the yr to wick. And a heavy merino base for cold days.

A good cheap option is the 32 degree brand. I've bought it at Costco.

Seems almost as good as my sets of Terramar base layers.

I have firstlite and it's great, however I have also bought several 100% merino base layer shirts used off ebay for $20-30 that have lasted for years. Karbon is the brand I've bought. I think they are marketed towards skiers and hikers but a deer doesn't care if you have a blue base layer under your camo jacket.

I have SKRE stuff, it's really nice. I usually shop when they go on sale and it's several times a year. Like another poster said, not super durable and I wash delicate and hang it to dry.

Only have first lite but a few things that stand out for them is the long zipper on the base layer shirts and the finger loops on the sleeves. Being able to dump heat by opening the base layer to almost your belly and the sleeves not slipping up when adding layers is game changer. I will buy the zip off pants base layer for the zip off feature as well.
I now have all the weights in base layer tops from FL but if I was buying again I probably would not buy the furnace which is the heaviest due to it being to warm most of the time for SE La.

KUIU is the best out there! Just do your research and you will see! All most all the guides out west prefer it over the other brands!

All Merino wool comes fom Merino sheep. The sheep dont choose brands, people do. The top brands all choose wool from the same sheep. So why overpay?

Just looked at the prices of some Vicuna wool clothing.

I'll be sticking to Merino for the foreseeable future.

I switched to First Lite a few years ago and I couldn’t be happier with it. Where do you hunt at as that will determine which piece you will need.

Have one of their medium weight long sleeve shirts (half zip) and some pants. Love them.
