Motor is solid, not a fan of shearwater.

If you’re in the Baton Rouge area and would like an experienced and Verado certified Mercury dealer to check the everything out, let us know. We have serviced Verados since their release in 2004 and they have a long, reliable track record. Easily maintained and extremely refined. You won’t be disappointed.

Keep in mind though that modern outboard engines are only as good as your local servicing dealer.

What are your negative thoughts on shearwater? If you don't mind ...

Rough, wet, overpriced, better options out there for same or less money but there’s always a seat for every arse.

Very accurate statement. A good friend/customer purchased a used SW 6 years ago and was seriously disappointed. Very wet riding and wasn’t satisfied with the performance. Fortunately, he found someone to purchase it and he stepped up to a slightly used Yellowfin 24 for not much more than he had in the SW. He still has the YF and is looking to sell it and step up if you’re interested. We repowered it with a 350 Verado last year.

the first line of verado's had all kinds of bugs and kinks, but the newer ones are pretty solid. I wouldn't balk because of the engine thats for sure.

Buddy has one on the back of a champion center console that David installed for him a few years back. We got down to Golden Meadow for our fishing tournament and the motor kept cutting out. We were checking fuses, etc. David patiently walked said Buddy through several potential issues.

He did this while we were on the phone at the dock at the camp. While he was in Atlanta for an event with his family. Turned out to be an electrical issue with a ground somewhere I think.

But his service and availability were duly noted. Good man.

Not what I wanted to hear. I'm looking at a few Shearwater boats in the area as well.

Unless it is a super deal, I'm sure YF boats are out of my budget. What are thoughts on pathfinder 24 trs hull performance compared to the shearwater 25 Ltz?

Another question for those who experienced a wet ride in the shearwater, was it a 25ft, or shorter hull? Does the length affect the wet ride, or is it consistent rough/wet in all the SW hulls?

Budget?
Use?
First Boat?
IMO, some boats are popular because they are expensive thus leading buyers to believe they are getting a superior product. If fit and finish is your top priority SW may be your brand but the lowly nautic star will out ride it every day of the week. Majek, haynie, Blue Wave, nautic star, K2 are out there waiting on a second owner.

Have a 25 LTD, never gotten wet. At least know what you’re talking about.

We have a 25 shearwater. Love it. We bought it pre-owner on a very good deal. I would not pay for what they typically run.

Run a yammy 350. Would rather the 300

Lol, this is a ridiculous statement and not something a business should be saying off hand on a message board. It's not a good engine if it needs regular service from a dealer.

OP, if you not running in 2-3s routinely than a wet ride really won't matter much. You only get wet if the seas are big and it's windy. Wet boats do suck especially in the winter, but if you know that going in it's not the worst thing.

Lol bashes shearwater for being wet (rightfully so)

But then recommends a majek. That boat is just as wet.
