Looking to build a rifle that I can shoot out to 800-1000 yards. Budget for rifle is $1200 with $500-700 for glass. What would the OB recommend?

Savage 110 or a remy that's not a sps. Have the actions trued and be maticulous with your reloads. Loads of different scopes in that price range that would work.

If I was doing it, I'd buy an old short action Remington 700 and have it built

Browning X bolt 7 mag and a Swarovski X5

You aren't gonna find glass to get you reliably to 1000 yards for less than around $1500

OP, I have a coworker that can build you a half inch gun off of a savage action and a Shaw barrel with a Boyd's stock. Probably 800-900, which would give you extra cash for glass. Don't skimp on glass.

Vortex Viper PST seems to disagree. I say "seems" because I have never had the opportunity to try those distances but from everything I have read online. They are incredible "budget" scopes and typically the first recommendation when people are looking to build on a budget.

SFP for ~$650 (4-16x50mm, slight more for 6-24x50mm)

FFP for ~$990

There are plenty of used ones for all within his budget of he is willing to shop a little.

Glass should cost more than the gun. Cheapest I would go is Vortex Viper PST FFP.

LINK

Option 1: Offer $90, sell the scope for $250, go see Carson with $1,250 for your scope

Option 2: Offer $900, keep scope for now, go see Carson with $1,000 to buy loading equipment and supplies to build at least 500 rounds, start shooting until the rifle is holding you back then begin a quality build.

I can answer this,

1. Go to Bowie Outfitters on Perkins
2. ask for Carson
3. Give him your wallet (no use in fighting it)
4.????
5. Profit

Do you have optics already? If not put everything on hold and save more money. $1000 won't cut it for repeatable reliable long range shooting.

Look around for a used .308 off snipers hide you might find something in your range there. Also to shoot 1000 yes you need to save for reloading equipment also.
