Normalcy bias.

I think we’re still under the 50% probability for larger-scale unrest, but still square in “it could easily happen” territory. Not the end of the world, just a helluva lot more crime and shortages, and the closer you are to a large metro area the worse it’s going to be. People who haven’t seen that tend to think it’ll never happen, like a tornado or Cat 5 wiping out your house. Those things happen to other people, and food shortages happen to other countries, not the US.

My odds of having a kitchen fire are a lot lower than 50% but I still keep a fire extinguisher in the pantry.

I am not screaming Armageddon, yes the chances of needing a BoB are small, extremely small even. With that said I can think of two times one could possibly have been good to have. Katrina and the storm last year.

A Katrina type scenario happens in Houston I have to make my way to Tyler or the Northshore.

You can sit there and do what you like, I will be at least minimally prepared for that one in hundred chance.

Most people also don't seem to realize how much of a razors edge the civility of society balances on. If you know anything of history even relative recent history you know that most humans are just a shade above barbarism.

Even good people will do unsavory things in desperate times. There are fewer and fewer good people these days, especially in large metro areas.

you're right, most people are only as good as their environment allows them to be.

At any given point we’re two weeks away from Road Warrior. Now we have a lot of backstops to keep that from happening, but turn off the delivery trucks and within two weeks, maybe less, we’ll look like Mogadishu. Metro areas will go first and fastest.

We (being us as a collective) have 90 days of food supply at any given time.... under normal circumstances. Those numbers don't calculate any kind of panic, shortages that are already occurring right now, two large grain producers currently being in a war, etc. That 90 days becomes 60 or even 30 quick.

That said I think a far more likely situation is shite stays like this for 2 more years (or gets worse),Biden wins in '24, and states like Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, just say deuces and at least try to split from the rest of the country. Or you could do the same scenario with California and Trump or Desantis winning, though I don't think that is nearly as likely. It will be extremely chaotic in either case. Our current political climate is untenable and will come to a head eventually.

They have so much shite in our local rivers that they dont recommend eating any more than 1 fish PER MONTH from them. Theres one major lake where bream is considered safe in any amount but thats it.

I’ve always felt like I could catch enough catfish to feed an army but I wonder in that situation, would it be safe to leave your property? Would it be safe to stay on your property? I wonder how it would play out.

I think we are completely (in earthly context) in the hands of the powers that be. If they want such chaos, they could create it tomorrow.

That said, I have a very large family, and I’m just exhausted with worrying about this for years. I have some food, I have a little garden, I have some chickens.
Is that enough? I don’t fricking know, and I’m tired of thinking about it.

I'll buy that, but that's why I said it starts when the delivery trucks stop. There's x amount already in the supply chain; 90 days is as good a number as any. But the average person doesn't have anything close to that; they depend on the trucks. When the trucks stop, regardless of what's in storehouses in Kansas or Walmart HQ or wherever, I think it's ugly in 2 weeks. A lot less than that in, say, metro Chicago or Atlanta.

All good preppers also know that making sure your fellow minded friends, family and acquaintances go vote in every election AND Google their congressmen and Senator’s contact email and speak your mind.

Bill Cassidy can still change his mind on gun control. I emailed him today about at least making the Dems give us something for his support in gun control. Like border control. Senator Kennedy is in our corner and isn’t DC influenced but Cassidy likes being liked.

I am a believer in keeping supplies but can you run two miles without stopping. If crap ever hit the fan you gonna have to be able to cover some ground.

Here in my little world.
My garden still growing.
Hidden behind a privacy fence

Had a good crop of.
Egg plant
Roma tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes
Squash
Blackberries

On my family land I am growing some seedless watermelons.

If I have to I will go on my land and legally kill some wild hogs.

Always catch some catfish.

I will find a way to survive.

If I am having to physically run then I have failed in the world of surviving and protecting family.

That being said I can do it if needed. I don't know about in this damn heat though.
