I wouldn’t buy one made from 2007 to 2020 as that’s when Remington owned Marlin, at a point when their quality was at the bottom. Aside from that period they’re great guns and are now made by Ruger.

Everybody oughta have one. They generally shoot way better than people think they should.

My dad has a mid 80s model that’s a great rifle. They are allegedly made by Ruger now, although I’ve never actually seen one on a shelf to purchase.

This one is 2007 from what I have found 336W, first numbers are 93. First one I have found as all others are not available or not found by me locally.

Rifle is in excellent shape.

Look for a JM stamping on the back of the barrel. These were made before the Remington take over and are generally better made.

Mine is an 07 and is stamped JM and appears to be as well made as any other Marlin. I think the Marlins must have lagged behind the remingtons in the going to shite series.

Remington acquired Marlin in 2007 but didn't close the original North Haven factory until 2008.

They are great guns as long as you understand their limitations. The bad rap they get is the guys who slap a 50mm scope on them and try to shoot deer at 250yd and miss or cripple a deer. They typically shoot minute of a beer can at 100yds .
What kind of price are they asking? They used to be able to be found for 200$ but now pre rem or pre cross bolt safety guns are getting 800-1000$ price tags.
Slap a lpvo scope 1-5 power on it, I have polished the triggers on all of mine and it really improves the trigger pull. There are YouTubes for doing it.

I have one from the 70’s. Killed lots of deer. Fun to shoot and very accurate. Shoot 150 or 170 gr soft points. They can do some damage to a deer no doubt:

Bought one used back in 97. I dig it and need to rescope it.

I have an older Marlin 336C in cal. 30-30 and it’s been great. Action continues to work well and it is accurate. Overall a fun rifle.

Deer killing machine! I have my dad’s 1970 Marlin 336 with a 3x9x40 on top. Loaded with 170 grain soft points, ain’t scared of reaching out to 200 yards if need be. Happy hunting!

It is my absolute favorite rifle to bring with me on camping/hiking/play time. I'm not a hunter, but i do love rifles. A 3030 is insanely fun to shoot. Feels/sounds good. Great at a distance. powerful round. indestructible rifle for cheap.

Everybody ought to have at least one lever rifle, I have two both Marlins and they're among my favorites

maybe hold off and see what Ruger does with them now they they've taken ownership, but can't go wrong with a JM stamped one

I'm personally not a big fan of microgroove - but it's not something to fight over - so evaluate whether that matters to you or not and choose accordingly

Same guys who think a paper plate size group at 100 yds is good enough for deer hunting.
