Now this is interesting. Jeep inspired new utility vehicle from Mahindra the tractor maker.
Apparently it has a 5 speed manual trans with a 4 cyl turbo Diesel engine that gets 30+ mpg. Being built near Detroit, Michigan. And the kicker...starts at only $13,990 (close to Polaris ranger pricing)

Jeep (FCA) is suing them for trademark violations and other things. I think they would easily win. Too make it a exact image of the Jeep is just asking for it. They will also go after them internationally.
Mahindra makes simple rugged vehicles but you can steal trademark and copyrighted material.

Mahindra holds a 'grandfathered' production license dating back to 1947 for several Willys jeep designs including the later CJs.[7]

For anyone else who was wondering like I was:
street legal?
street legal?
quote:
IS ROXOR STREET LEGAL? This is an off-road vehicle only, therefore it is NOT legal for use on any public street or highway. The ROXOR was designed and engineered to comply with off-highway vehicle standards such as those promulgated by ANSI/ROHVA (American National Standards Institute/Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association), the premier member organization charged with setting forth stringent safety rules for vehicles like our ROXOR Side-by-Side. The “off-road only” nature of ROXOR also keeps the price point well below those of street legal SUVs and 4x4s.

People been asking jeep to make something similar to that for years...
but no they decide that they should put POS like this out there

Mahindra bought the willys trademark years ago.

They just had one on a hunting show Firday night on the outdoor channel. Funny you posted this. We was backing up the DVR trying to figure what it was.

You won’t find one for under $15k.
They are heavy, not street legal and non automatic until 2019 model

Local dealer has them. He sells them about as fast as he gets them in.
Mahindra claims that 90% of the parts interchange directly with a CJ2A. Mahindra has had the liscense to make the CJ-2A in India for years. Coolest part to me is the PTO. Its got a Spicer Tcase with basically Dana44 axles.

Makes more sense than dropping $20k on a Polaris

Would be the ultimate toy for the camp/farm

There’s already a chip/tuner for more power and raise speed limiter.

You can get a decent used CJ5, CJ7 or Wrangler for that. And it's street legal.

Agreed, however I think they need to make it street legal. This would be the ultimate hunting club vehicle.

Emissions and safety requirements would likely double the cost at minimum

I've been looking.... not much in decent condition.

manual is what you want anyway
i've given up on A) trying to place "value" logic on various off-road options and B) trying to find used small 4X4's in halfway decent shape.
this right here is brand-new, ready to go, safe and capable. i'll be buying one next season

Heavy as shite. Zero ground clearance. Weak engine. Terrible ride. Not road legal.
And that's from the biggest mahindra fanboy on this site

compared to what?
a SXS may be lighter, but on non-performance models ground clearance is similar, as is ride. the engine is fine for what its used for (much better than a gas SXS), and it has a real transmission and transfer case.
if you are comparing it to a used or new jeep, then yes...you can get better ground clearance/engine/suspension/etc. but a used jeep is not new, and a new jeep is not $15K
