Has anybody here been written up for not having the boater education (if you were born after 1984)? I had been checked a couple of times and never asked about it. I got checked on Saturday and the warden told me to take it but didn't give me a ticket or warning. I'm almost finished the course now but just curious about how often they write folks up for this.

I took the course. It sucks but it’s all online and on your own pace.

I got asked about it once but he didn’t ask for proof. Speaking of which: I still haven’t seen my card. I have a screenshot of my completion certificate only.

I did get a warning for not having a throw for a 16’ boat

They need to scrap the 1984 date and make everyone take it IMO

Never been asked.

PSA: you can get your boaters safety endorsement on your drivers license.

I was born in March of 84. Pissed me off having to take it after having driven boats growing up. I haven't ever been asked, but at least the thing was free.

Only bad part was spending an hour learning about damn jet skis

Born in ‘83.

I don’t disagree that everyone should have to take it, though. Plenty of idiots on the water in the older crowd, too.

It isn't bad. The shitty part is each page is timed. I'm a fast reader. I've been clicking through it while at work. The quizzes are common knowledge type stuff (i hope)

100% agree with this. I see people do the dumbest shite while operating water craft.

When I get checked I hand it to them with my drivers license and fishing license so they know I have it right off the bat. Only ticket I've ever been given was on a jetski for "jumping the wake of a boat within 100'". I don't believe I was within 100' and the boat was going the opposite direction but it is what it is and I wasn't going fight it in court with no way to prove that I was more than 100'.

I looked for an actual boating class where you go out on the water and run a boat. Couldn't find any. I never use charts or maps, and just keep it simple, so I figured any more education would be good. Nothing available further than clicking through some shite online or watching a presentation

I can't recall if I've been asked for it in the past, because I usually hand it to them along with my phone that has my license or my hard copy of my license.

my friend just texted me this thread with "if you show up to leeville in a diesel truck or a ford explorer towing an xpress or a large bayboat and take more than 5 minutes to get your gear and launch, you need to take the boating course.

I’ve had mine since they implemented the law. I’ve been asked to see it, just asked if I have it and at times not asked at all. Just depends I guess. I find they give me less flack when asked for my fishing license and I hand them my boaters safety and lifetime at the same time without them asking.

I was born before 84, but I still took the online course. Glad I’m over the age requirement because I lost the card at some point.
