Looking for lawn mower recs

Alright this would be my first riding mower and I need some recommendations on which mowers to look at. I don’t need anything yuge or super expensive... I live in a subdivision lot but it’s definitely big enough for a small rider. What brands and size deck do I need to look at? TIA

How big is ur lot? I have a hustler 54” but a 42” would probably be better

I’m not sure of the dimensions but it takes a solid hour to cut it with my push mower. frick this heat, I’m ready to drink a beer and ride around instead.

If you are in a subdivision it might be a better move to use a self propelled mower. My brother in law has about 3/4 acre lot and last year he bought this Honda. I want to cut his lawn.

Just get a push mower. Your yard will look better cutting it with a push mower than a rider.

That 42” hustler looks good. They have Kawasaki or Koehler engine options on their mowers, both are good. I’d much rather the zero turn than a regular tractor type mower.

How big is your lot? Do you have a bunch of obstructions?
I have a 50x125 lot with a house and shop on it, and to do everything takes me 2.5hrs. I have been debating on getting a used 36" walk-behind, but I think I'm gonna go the route of 25"+ self-propelled. There just isn't enough room to utilize a walk-behind properly.
I have been looking at the Ybravo 25, Toro 30, and Exmark 30

Just small yard under an acre.
You can stay within $1,499 to $1,699 for a decent rider.
Zero turns you are looking $2,299 to 3,000 price range.
Unless you have a lot of things to get around in a small yard it not going to save you enough time to justify the cost.
In this price range get bigger frame and better handling units in a rider $1,499 to $1,899.
Cub cadet
Husqvarna
JD
You can go down to 30” rider in cub cadet line and if you like a bagger that is fine they run around $1,399 some are around $999 if you want a shifter and not a hydro automatic.
Cub cadet does handle better and with mow in reverse it really not too much unit or not too little of a unit.
Husqvarna and JD do make decent units also.
I just do not like how they went to the general composite transmission in this price range. That transmission has a lot of issue and recalls.
Cub Cadet stayed with Tuff Torque and the rest should have stayed with that line instead of cutting cost at the most important part of the mower.
I sold them all and for small yard they all work well as these brands handle better for the above price range without killing your bank account.

strongly disagree, unless you're pushing with a 36" mower, wider > narrow

Thanks for the info. I’m considering this one

cant go wrong with a husqvarna, they are one of the best but if you have a small yard then its a bit much and hard to make tight turns.
if your yard is small then you are much better off with this one and its even better quality then the husqvarna LINK
i bought a used one for myself and one my dad and they are great, you can do a u-turn in a 5 ft circle and it turns with very little effort. its a great mulching mower as well if you dont want to bother with grass clippings. maint is easy, only has one belt that lasts a long time, the transmission is a drive disk that costs $20 to replace so no parts to break, and the deck is 5 times thicker then any other lawn mower so it never rusts out until its 20 years old
and frick the push mower, self propelled or not your gonna want a rider in august when its 150 degrees out lol.

I have XT1 42" Club Cadet from HD. Im on season 3 cutting over 1/2 acre and love it. I have some tight spots and have storage issues which is why I went with 42". I researched a while and mowers are pretty standardized. I wanted 16" turn radius, reverse mowing, deck wash, etc. Thats pretty standard stuff in $1500 range.
Being your first rider, no matter what you get it will take some time to work out how to best cut your yard. I pushed mine with Honda and switching to riding was quite the learning curve. The pattern, deck height, speed all have to be worked out. There are places in my yard I have to change height and speed as to not bounce or scalp. The pattern is more about being efficient but Ive gotten my cut down to just rider and then weed eat edges and corners. In reality my cutting time is only cut down about 15 mins, but the sweat saving is tremendous.
BTW my neighbor cuts with ZTR on same size yard with similar obstacles. Ive borrowed his ZTR several times and I realized the ZTR is not really worth the price and storage for cutting my yard. My point is ZTR is not always the answer.

Those Snappers last forever. Before my grandpa died, he had one that was 60 years old IIRC.
Personally, I don't like how the tractor-style ones tend to push the front tires in turns. The Snapper one turns much tighter, so you can swing it around instead of making a 3-point turn

Snapper isn’t what it used to be. They were bought out by Briggs and Stratton. They took a good brand and made it pretty terrible.

If it only takes an hour to cut it with a push mower, why do you think you need a rider??? That is not much time spent to cut grass to be honest and certainly doesn't warrant the expense of a riding mower.
But if you insist, why not try to find something used on Craig's List or some other local "Buy/Sell" type publication.
