Will be driving 3k miles a month on average. Company paying 53.5 cents a mile

Not towing anything. Any suggestions?

I'm looking at a new Colorado Z71. Cheaper and rated just as good as a Tacoma.
Better gas mileage than a full size. Not sure I want to upgrade to diesel

If I'm putting 3k a month, I think I want the extra space that you get with a full sized truck. The extra comfort is worth it to me.

If you're trying to maximize your mile money, sure, get a mid sized. I'm not sure how much better economy they get over a full sized though.

I don't know if it's been done yet, but deleting one of those baby diesels would be pretty damn cool

I rode in one of these a few weeks ago.
I was surprised and impressed to the point that I'm thinking of buying one.

if you need a truck to put large stuff, or messy/stinky stuff in it, then get the Tacoma, they will go 500k miles and are the best high mileage use vehicles.

if you just need to carry stuff and it is not large stuff, or messy/stinky stuff, then get a 4runner. they are big and roomy inside, luxurious interior and ride like a cadillac but give you a truck like cargo area plus its a Toyota so you get that same 500k mile engine life

I put 200,000 on F150's in about 2 yrs time.
Now I use to go fancy with higher level package.
At this time I have a Chevy Colorado to wheel around town and my F150 is for work.
I owned 2001,2003, 2005, 2007,2009,2011,2013,presently 2015 3.5 non ecoboost v6, and picking up 2017 in two weeks.
Due to mileage I stay with basic package for I might splurge and go with a sports package.
Granted I drive hwy miles and sometimes tow a 4,000 lb trailer.
Never had mechanical issues.
I rotate my tires every oil change 5000 miles and get 60k to 105k on good set of tires.
Two trucks I have just changed the rear pads only.
This 2015 F150 I have only just put a cheap set of tires on it after 100,000 miles to get me through to when my new truck comes in.

Gas mileage in town avg 19-21 mpg
On hwy 21 to 24 mpg
If I tow a small aluminum boat 17-21 mpg
If I tow a heavy trailerit is all over the board depending on how windy it is.

You must have not rode in a cadillac before.

I'm not sure you've ever been in a Cadillac.

4Runners are loud, and drive like a truck.

ETA- I see you beat me.

Fook mi, that's a lot of trading/buying, baw. Hope you make money on those from your employer/business. That looks expensive to me and I'm a 1%er (close enough, anyway).

I was looking at a certified GX 460 - wow those are expensive. But extremely nice. If V8 is what you want and you're willing to spend it, what Lexus does with the trucks is nothing short of amazing. LX, too - although woefully impractical and not really cut out for off roading, the LX is an extraordinary feat of engineering.

Do you need the z71 package? Is 4 wheel drive needed?

You could get a 2011 Ranger 5 speed 4cyl and pull down 24mpg in mixed driving on regular gas.

I'd like the leather and interior upgrades and the option to tow in the future.
