I currently have a Logic 18.5 ft bay boat that I will be keeping. The boat is 16 years old but I re-powered with a Yamaha F150 3 years ago. I will be keeping this boat for marsh use but I am currently looking into a single engine offshore boat in the 23-24 ft range to hit the closer rigs and fish the bigger bays in the South Lafourche/Grand Isle area.
I have been looking at a variety of makes and models but keep coming back to the Nautic Star 2302 Legacy.

My question for the board is: Does anyone have any experience or input on the Nautic Star boats and in particular the deep vee offshore models.

Link to boat and specs. Nautic Star 2302 Legacy
Thanks for any input.

ETA: didn't see where you said you're keeping your bay boat for the marsh. Carry on

While a nice boat if you spend a lot of time riding around, I wouldn't spend all that money on that one. That's bench in the back is a lot of wasted room for a bay/offshore boat.

Buy a slightly used glacier bay. Cheaper, can do what you want and are great boats.

Just don't expect to go faster than 35mph

I personally would get at least a 24 foot long mono hull boat for mostly offshore fishing, a 22 ft long cat would be fine too. Imo anything smaller than that and you are really going to have to pick and choose your days.

I've got an Nautic Star XS2000 Offshore, 2013. It's been a good boat so far, not a ton of issues. I would personally not get that model because the seating configuration on the front looks like it takes up way too much space , and as another poster said, the rear seating is bulky too, unless it folds down.

In summary, I like Nautic Star, just not that setup...

ETA: I don't do a lot of far offshore fishing, but I would definitely get bigger than a 20. I fish mostly Galveston Bay and it can get rough n a real choppy day.

I don't have a Nautical Star but I'm familiar with them. Good boats and good price value.

currently looking into a single engine offshore boat

Avoid getting a single engine if you can man.

I have a deep V Sea Hunt single engine. It goes out 50 miles fine in 1-2s. It's just that I have to ask someone else with a boat to come with me every time I want to go out.

It's really reliable, but it's just so dangerous to do it without a buddy boat. I used to do it all the time when I was younger. But now that all my friends are married & have kids, I don't invite them because of the guilt I'd feel if God forbid anything bad would happen.

If you can swing it, try to get something with dual engines.
If not, frick it, southbound and hammer down

Offshore boat for our choppy gulf really need to go 26 to 30 foot, otherwise just get a big hybrid like a blackjack 256.

I'd take a used higher end brand over a new 2 piece 23 ish deep v.

I have a Robalo R200 that handles the chop pretty well. Very smooth riding boat and very dry in the rough stuff. It's a deep CC compared to most in that size class

My good buddy has a 23' Tideline in Leeville. Fishes the lakes for Specks in the AM, runs offshore for Snapper Mid-Day, fishes the marsh for reds in the afternoon. 80,000 boat, but other than fishing bluewater it can do it all.

Offshore get something min 25 feet or longer. Used Contender etc should be in your budget range.

Look at the 22' pioneer. Nice clean boat with similar front layout to the nautic star but not with that big arse bench in the back. Deeper vee.

If wanting a true offshore boat with no frills look at clearwateR. I like there 2300 and hope to get one in few years

Uncle has a deep V nautic start and likes it a lot. But he doesn't run much to rigs. He's just spec fishing out of it.

I'm with the others. Regularly going out to the rigs and I want two motors back there. Even if it's two 115's. I'd seriously consider a smaller twin vee or similar. I've seen quite a few cheap used ones. I'll admit I don't have a lot of experience with a cat, so not sure what size of say I'd have to have. If mono hull, 26' at least. And I realize you don't need that to hit up very close rigs for snapper and cobia, but I'm not buying a boat purely to catch 2 snapper in 60' of water. It's have to be more versatile. Either go out farther, or work inshore as well.

If i was looking for a offshore boat type. I would look at Imemsa Panga hulls and have Bayou to Bluewater in Texas build me a 25' with an 150 Yamaha.
