Live crawfish as bait

Has anyone used them as bait? Thinking about getting a pound and rigging up catfish jugs with them or throwing one on a Carolina rig. Or maybe under corks at lake verret. Who’s had any experience with these? I also wonder if they would hit already boiled crawfish.

Kill the Goo on them but I imagine catfish will hit em too.

Great bait on trotlines or yo-yos.

I've seen folks catch catfish with them in the Mississippi River fishing off the banks.

I remember an article in bassmasters years ago about bass fishing with them. Some pro that used to do it for fun. I think he would just tight line with them, basically near any structure you fish with a jig or worm. Said he could feel when he was about to get bit because the crawfish would start trying to flare up. Always sounded fun.

Get some small ones . About a inch or so. Catfish love em. Bass will eat them like candy.

Mark Davis guides on lake Ouachita and uses them almost exclusively in the Summer on big spotted Bass with his clients.

Quite a few years ago I went run jug lines with a buddy of mine in Lake Salvador. We baited with live crawfish and caught redfish, drum, specs, catfish and even a couple flounder.

A friend of mine has dumped the slack/red ones in his pond for years. Any lure with black and red specks makes the bass bite in his pond.

Chiquipens(spelling) love them

Just pull the claws off and bass love them. I’ve caught many a smallmouth and goggle eye with live crawfish.

How do you rig them for bass? Under a cork?

Smallmouth will jump in your boat for small live crawfish.
I'm not much of a fisherman, but I use to go with a friend( passed away now, damn shame, because he would have loved this board, and talking about fishing),and we would use small live crawfish.
We had a place where we could dip up plenty of crawfish for free.
Hook 'em through the tail, and drag them backwards over rockpiles and sandbars near the main river channel.
It was fun.

1 1/2" to 2" are best for catfish. Hook them thru the tail. Bigger then that, remove the claws.
Trotline with 125 hooks produced over 600lbs of catfish last weekend on Old River using crawfish.

That was 3 runs. Still, real good fishing. Was a nephew. Had a few real nice flatheads in the bunch. He gave me an ice chest of clean fish.
I'm not up to going out there anymore health wise.
