re: Lets discuss deer and bait again

I have hunted over corn, rice bran, food plots and natural food sources (feed trees in the woods or heavily browsed thickets). I agree with most - to each his own as long as it is legal and the meat is not wasted. Only thought on corn is if you are in an area with hogs, be prepared to have them overtake an area! Of course, that just provides opportunity for pork to mix in with your deer meat!
Good luck to all this year and remember to check straps and stands early!

The only GJ I've ever seen when I first bought the place was "Just checking to see if anyone was using this place." He didn't check licenses, guns, or coolers. I think he was looking for a personal hunting spot and I haven't seen him since.

I'd rather shoot pigs anyway.
I just find the self righteous puffed up lil wannabe Jim Bridger's out there to be a bit 'unimpressive'. In some places, corn helps, in others, you're just feeding them at night anyway so you're wasting your money.
Me, I'm looking for a kill that first weekend on the bait, after that, all bets are off and we're back to 'hunting'. Corn or not. Horns are great, but they don't taste as good as a tiny doe.

Do you all consider using "doe in heat" type scent lures the same as baiting?

Good point Choirboy.
I'm betting they don't and use it regularly while sitting at a persimmon tree.

Not hardly, I haven't killed a deer yet over scent. But that damn CAN thingy is the chit.

Yes the CAN is the shite!! I have "called in" several good bucks with it. Problem is tho, you better be ready!! I am yet to get a shot off while using it. When he comes in, he is on FULL alert

What miracle "can thingy" do y'all speak of?
Posted on 9/5/12 at 5:29 pm to winner
Made by Primos. Called the Can or Lil Can. Simulates a hot doe bleat. It works.

I just think sitting in a box, staring down a long shooting lane with a feeder in the middle is the most boring thing on the face of the planet
This. And I've done it. And i get frequent bids to go do it again. Mind you, I don't care if others do it, it's just not for me.
I think Salmon and I may be twins separated at birth.

shoot them anywhere anytime it is legal
It's hunting. Do it how you want. A kill is a kill. Just don't torture the thing by injuring it and letting it die slow. Put the thing out of its misery at least, someway or another.

i've killed em in front of dogs, from a climbing stand 30 ft up a pine tree overlooking a cutover, and over a big arse corn pile.
they all tasted the same to me. as long as its legal, go for it.
just remember when hunters start fighting amongst themselves over stupid things like baiting and high fence and dogs, the only people who win are the PETA freaks.
