Pulling the trigger in the VX5HD 3-15x44. Already settled on this scope but cannot decide which reticle I want. Will very very rarely shoot beyond 300-350 yards. For those of you that have experience with this scope, which reticle do you recommend

I have a VX5HD. I’ll have to check which reticle I have, but i go for the basic retitles. I don’t like a bunch of crap in my view.

I use it on my 28 Nosler to hunt

I usually buy Duplex. I don't like all the other crap either.

I like the cds with duplex when you dial in a load. Otherwise, simple bdc type reticle.

Wind plex FTW. I like being able to see behind the reticle.

I have two of them. They’re both wind plex reticle.

I’d choose that or duplex unless you’re planning on using the scope in a PRS match then choose the impact-29.

I have 2 as well with one duplex and one windplex. I think either one will work good.

Are you getting firedot?

I usually use my rangefinder and memorize the ballistics on what I'm shooting for the season. Get close enough. Have only killed deer near 300yds with my 7-08, never farther.

Duplex with CDS. Perfect combo for hunting in that distance range.

As others have said, regular duplex with CDS is great. With a rangefinder you can start dabbling in long range shooting if you get the itching for it.

I really like the TMR reticle or basic mil-dot. My scope is a basic mil dot with mil turrets. Fun to play with.

For reticle, look at the twilight hunter scopes with the firedot reticle. They are only in the VX3 series right now, but I got one and love it. Also, the firedot duplex is hard to beat.

depending on the gun cartridge, you're better off knowing your ballistics and sighting for 200yd zero. This way you're high at 100 and low at 300 but still within minute of vitals, and dont have a lot of unneeded "scope stuff" in the view.

Good scope.

But it is a Leupold. Pronounced “ Lou Poled”. Nine out of ten folks say “ Leo poled”. Called the headquarters one day to verify and won a hundred dollar bet.

Leopold was a King of Belgium.

Firedot. Also, not a fan of CDS. Get a good app like StrelokPro and run your data when you want to shoot. Your CDS is for a very specific data set. At 350 and in it won’t matter though really. I just like using MOA and a data table based on my actual conditions.

I've got the same scope and would recommend the Firedot. I don't like all of the fancy reticles either, but the Firedot is basically a duplex with longer center lines in the middle. You can turn the red dot on and off, and increase or decrease the brightness. It makes a big difference early in the morning or right at shooting light in the afternoon, especially on darker animals like pigs.
