Don’t know all the ins and outs. I have never owned one. I’m interested in starting to bow hunt so any advice and tips is welcome.

Go to an archery shop. They’ll measure your draw length. Buy a bow from the shop that fits you and your price range.

Buy the most expensive bow you can find shooting the highest poundage your can pull back without sharting your pants and shoot the biggest expandable you can find while wearing sitka out of a tree saddle
Jk
Where are you located? If you don’t have a buddy to guide you along then you need to find a good pro shop and start there. There is a ton of things to get right and even with that there is a very large learning curve.

Where do you live (what part of the State) ? Some of us can refer you to an honest archery shop. You don’t need to spend $2000 on “top of the line” components & accessories to kill a deer. The most important thing is to get measured and fitted properly by a competent bow technician that can tune the bow for you. Since you’ve never shot a compound bow before, I would also recommend several lessons to make sure you have the proper shooting form, technique, and anchor point. The sooner the better since archery shops are getting busy with customers .. bow season starts on 9/15

I’d say nearly as important as a bow that fits you is a release aid that’s comfortable to you. Try different types.

Whatever you do, if you’re serious, you’d better buy it now. I suspect bows will be as rare as level action rifles come September

All the major companies make very good bows these days. As mentioned, go to a pro shop where someone can size you and make sure everything fits properly.

Go see Chad at Bowie. He doesn't work every day because he is in their admin but he's the only guy I will ever let touch anything archery related.

I would suggest go to a bow shop and shoot the bows you are interested in. We bought my son one last year for graduation and that’s what we did. We went to Bowie’s in Baton Rouge and let him shoot until he found the one he liked.

This

There's several top brands which will all get the job done, shoot several and see what you are comfortable with then have the shop guy set it up.

With todays sights and practice you can get good up to 50 yards pretty easily.

Not sure about there. Spillway sportsman should not be much farther for you if your in avoyles. I haven’t been in a while but they used to do very good work and can hook you up.
Just don’t go to a box store or order online trying save a few dollars. Focus on trying to find a small shop that you can develop a relationship with. You will need help on the intial purchase setup and tuning as well as future tuning and tweaking.
Someone on here will point you to a local shop with a good prostaff
