Kid fishing trip checklist

Taking Lil Ms Beebe on her first fishing trip tomorrow. Crappie are making their way to the banks so I figure it’s probably the best time to take her.
I’ve got iPad, her chair, enough snacks and drinks to cure starvation in Africa, and her mini me fishing pole.
Any other suggestions you can throw this dads way? She is 3 so I am not expecting much other than spending a little time with her and drowning some minnows.

Following. My little one has been pushing for fishing trips. Took her to a pond the other day but fish weren't having any of it... She did ok but had to shorten the trip.

If anything goes wrong (like motor issues) play it off like it's no big deal.
My son and I got stranded once due to mechanical issues, I made a big deal about it and he's never wanted to go back.

Double the snacks and make sure to have enough water or juice. At that age, mine liked to take a Barbie doll. That allowed them to play when it got slow. But be mindful of toys that can get wet. In case you didn’t know, barbies like to get there hair wet and feel the water.
Since I have girls, we also brought a travel potty and toilet paper.

Just curb your expectations. Her attention span will be about 10 minutes.
Make sure you have some shade somewhere. Even with it cool out the sun can wear them out quick.

Good one. My girls wouldn’t do nature squats.

Biggest tip is remember you are going for her not you. If she gets bored stop when she is done leave. Be happy with whatever quality time you get.

I took mine when they were tiny. I was misearable they were miserable. My older boy is 9. He is now a good fishing buddy

Below is a progression of what it was like getting my daughter (now 14) addicted to fishing.
First and foremost on your checklist- bring patience. And never try to force the matter. If you're on the bank, and she wants to chase butterflies, let her. If you're in the boat and she wants to play with the minnows in your bucket, let her. Just make the trip enjoyable, even if she's quickly bored of the actual fishing.

dip net. One to play in the minnow bucket and one to play in the lake with.

Some bread. If the fish aren't biting and she gets bored, at least she can feed some ducks to stay entertained.

Life jacket if in a boat and might not be bad to have on the bank also. Forgot the life jacket last summer had to turn around and head back towards the house. Aggravated, so driving fast when I noticed that big pine didn't look safe. Well by time I realized it was falling there wasn't enough room to stop and I had to drive under the top of tree with the limbs touching the pavement as I went under. Broke my grill knocked and mirror off. Also unstrapped the boat from the trailer. Got lucky and still trying to figure out how it didn't crush my boat. We didn't go fishing felt like we had been lucky enough for that day.

best thing to do is don't even bring you a pole.

Leave iPad at home.

Leave it in the truck.

enough snacks
That's what you think. Pack more.

pick the best 30 minutes of the day and take her then. 3 yr olds aren't good for much more than that.

drowning some minnows.
Put some in a separate bucket for her to play with (kill). That will buy you another 20 min.
