I should have phrased that better. If it is a dog that is consistently running my property then yes, most likely he will be catching a bullet. If I recognize it as my neighbors or has a collar I will get the dog and try and return it to the owners.

yes, running dogs is doing everyone else a favor. this attitude is why people hate dog hunters. you are not being considerate of the other hunters. in fact you have deluded yourself to think that you are doing everyone a favor.

just because you see one deer not care about dogs doesn't mean dick about deer in general. when my brother was 13, he shot 4 times with a rifle to kill a deer less than 50 yards away, and the deer never spooked. doesn't mean that every deer doesn't give a shite if you're shooting at it.

Not exactly what you said though.

thats a good way to open up a check book FYI. someone I know had this happen to his squirrel dog. $10,000 later...

just make sure the ones you shoot dont have a tracking collar

I don't own dogs, have never owned a deer dog, and don't hunt with them at all. I'm merely a bit more knowledgable than you about the situation.

problem collard dogs I have shot. ie deer running dogs that we have had to deal with numerous times. Haven't done it in awhile but that is due to them no longer running dogs bc they ended up having a bunch not returning.

I hunt a small tract of land and no one around me has a large enough tract to run dogs without encroachment. It's happened all my life hunting there. I've gotten used to it and have seen quite a few deer from them pushing them toward me. I see the points that the anti dog hunters are making and would probably agree with them if I put in as much work as some of ya'll do.

so how do you guys feel about using a dog to track a wounded deer?

so since long lining is akin to dog hunting do you order fish in a seafood restaurant?

and yet youe believe that all deer do not care about the presence of hunting dogs in the area. and that running dogs late in the season is likely the only way the someone is going to see a deer.

i'm sure no one on this board has killed a deer past christmas without their neighbor running dogs. we should band together to buy them all a nice christmas present.

You say this a lot, yet post some of the dumbest things on the board. You make us want poop back.

I agree with something said last night.
I'm not in the business of catching dogs.

Just what I wanna do, get down out of my tree on my day off from work and go catch somebody's dog and take it home.

I know I'm smarter than someone who thinks Dave Petzal is the end all be all of firearms experts. Really, do you ever put out anything worth reading?

Great, doing what dogs do = death sentence. Dog shooters are scum.

Let's put it this way. What do you think disturbs deer more: A) A few dogs running deer through an area from time to time; or B) A hunter slogging through the woods or riding his four wheeler up to his stand day after day for several weeks on end (multiplied by several dozen in the general area)?

what about a pit bull - roaming the woods with a hen turkey in it's mouth.. and your kid and a friend... in a ground blind in the direction the dog is headed?

Some guys in our lease run dogs. (5000) plus acres. I still hunt only. I can't see that it bothers the deer at all.

I never said that, but I know he knows more than you. Were you in a bad accident or something? It would be great for the board to know why you post the way you do.

It's no use trying to get people to understand this. I try all the time to make people realize how much pressure they put on deer. Corn piles, road traffic, camp noises, human odor, etc....all much less natural than a dog chasing a deer.
