I have a few parts that are about 36 in in length that I need to get sandblasted but I also have a bunch of little small parts, just not really sure what the going rate is for blasting or if I should just bite the bullet and buy one.

You will need more than a sandblaster: a compressor with significant pressure/volume, blast media, depending on what needs blasting a blast box, protective clothing, etc.

Just fyi...

If they are small find a powder coat guy near, they blast before they coat and I've had them throw mine in with something else

This is the key, IMO. Sandblasters are relatively cheap….however, it takes a hell of an air compressor to run one for any length of time at all.

I had a wood stove that was sitting in a barn blasted inside and out. Approx 30” deep x 16” wide x 20” tall. And the legs as well. They charged around $115 this was 3 years ago.

A lot depends on the material you are blasting, the media will be different for some soft metals which can change the price quite a bit.

A cheap cabinet at harbor freight is just over $200. That's just the cabinet. I have one and it works well but I didn't pay anywhere close to that for it.

They have sales on stuff all the time though. I have a 10 gallon compressor to use with it. (might be a 15 gal).

3' long you could a mcahine shop to bead blast them in a cabinet. I wouldnt but all the necessary eqpt to do a few small parts. Look up a local machine shop and inquire, they will probably charge an hourly rate on something like that.

My wife's grandfather loved the place. He said you can find so many things for $20-50. Some of them might last for a few jobs, but sometimes you'll get a beast that won't die. He said their version of a Sawzall, he'd bought maybe a half dozen over the years. One of them was over 10 years old and used and abused all the time but it just keeps on working.

Let me know if you get a sandblaster set up. I’ve got a few things that need attention.
