SW Arkansas public land
45 degrees NNE breeze

Cruzr saddle

Ridge full of white oaks in between some pines

Hot tip for all you public land hunters: make sure you scout some preseason

I pulled up to a little doe killing spot I’ve hunted several times over the years this morning and the whole block of woods had been clear cut. Rookie mistake

Just had two does at 20 yards but no clear shot.

They didn’t like something, don’t think they winded me though.

Just finished cooking breakfast for the kids. Coffee now. Enjoying this beautiful morning. Wife is out of town until Tuesday so I'm on kid duty. May try and slip up there tomorrow with the oldest.

Mathews bow

Couldn't find any hot feed trees so I'm on a ridge I know the deer like to travel. Saw a big hog at first light but couldn't get a shot.

Think I had a couple does bedded about 60-70 yds from my tree. They must have watched me climb up and start settling in and finally had enough and gave me the blow n go!

I actually I prefer to keep my bow in my lap. I can attach my release, stand up and shoot with less motion than reaching for it first.

Full sun in face, hot as hell, made a bad stand choice.

I usually do the same, but rarely stand up to shoot.

Got 3 squirrels this morning. The best part was the mosquitos were not even out due to the cooper air. Felt great. About 8:45 is when it heated up enough to stir those bastards up
