re: Question regarding Gov Landry

How does he compare to previous governors? The majority of my family lives in North Louisiana and they seem to agree he’s pretty decent. My family in south Louisiana is not a fan

Question regarding Gov Landry

Posted by JPB on 10/30/25 at 8:12 pm
Born and raised in Louisiana but I haven’t lived there since 2013. Is Landry a good governor, aside from the latest dealings with LSU? I see a lot of negative comments about him but I’m curious if that is only in relation to the BK/SW firing or if it’s his administration as a whole?

Again, I’m just genuinely curious and don’t mean to spark a political debate. What’s the overall consensus on him as a governor?

That might be the best description I’ve heard. I’ve tried to explain it but couldn’t word it correctly. Condescending

I wasn’t raised in the UMC but my wife was. We left after our church voted to remain a part of the UMC. Didn’t bother me to leave but crushed her. Couldn’t imagine raising our kids in that nonsense

I just turned in a company truck with the 2.7l turbo - 2023 Silverado Custom. That engine is a joke in my opinion

I have the Zone7 Versa jacket and pants. Very quiet, as the name implies. Very warm as well. I’ve worn them over the first lite furnace base layers with temperatures in the teens and was very comfortable. They might be a tad heavy but otherwise I’m very pleased with the set

Practice a lot. Climbing in the dark and with bulky clothing on is a lot different than in a pair of shorts in the back yard in the middle of the day. Do what you can to get as much experience going up and down different trees before you venture off into the woods on a hunt. You’ll eventually get a system down and you’ll be surprised how quickly you can get setup.

I started with those same Hawks before eventually ditching them for something lighter and easier to use. Currently I’m running beast sticks with a 3 step aider on my first stick and single aiders on the next 2 sticks. I use the versalink attachment for my sticks and platform and have had no issues. 18-19 ft is about my max but I have long legs

Platow packs it all very nicely

PPL and Deadlift Question

Posted by JPB on 4/23/24 at 12:04 pm
Been running Greyskull for several months. About to reset for a 2nd time. Was considering switching it up for a few weeks ahead of a beach trip in June. If I were to run PPL, what day would be best to insert deadlift in y’all’s expert opinions. TIA

Will do.

What does the extension agent do exactly? I’ve had a few people suggest getting in touch with their office but not exactly sure what it is they do?

10-12’ at the deepest. Rather steep banks except for one large shallow flat

Spring is in the deepest waters

We stocked in early April with bass, bluegill, fatheads. No catfish

Opinion on why my pond is so muddy?

Posted by JPB on 6/22/23 at 10:57 am
We dug a pond (2.5 acres) at the end of last summer on my property. There are trees on about 50% of the bank and the rest of the bank is wide open pasture. While digging, we hit a natural spring and it runs straight through the middle of the pond

After the rains in fall/winter, it filled up with water and was super clear

As the rains started in the early spring, it would cloud up but get clear again after a few dry days

But around mid to late April, it got cloudy and appears to be getting worse. It looks like a pond full of chocolate milk now. We have had a lot rain locally but recently went 15 days of no rain and it hasn’t changed

I’m not sure if this is typical or if it’s something I should be concerned with?

Cruzr XC
Predator Platform
3 Beast sticks with amsteel aiders

Been my favorite setup thus far in my saddle hunting journey

SW Arkansas public land
45 degrees NNE breeze
Mathews Vertix
Cruzr saddle

Ridge full of white oaks in between some pines

Hot tip for all you public land hunters: make sure you scout some preseason

I pulled up to a little doe killing spot I’ve hunted several times over the years this morning and the whole block of woods had been clear cut. Rookie mistake

Haven’t used it on a summit before but I do enjoy it on my Muddy

I started using a saddle this year. I hunt public land only. Have a Cruzr XC and run 4 beast stick minis with a 1 step fixed amsteel aider on each. Added the Tethrd Versalinks and have a Tethrd predator platform. I haven’t weighed the whole set up but toting it 2 miles in is not bad at all.

I can be at 22’ with that setup in less than 10 minutes for the most part.

I absolutely love it. A 3-4 hour sit is very comfortable as long as you have knee pads or a pad for your knees. What I like most about it is the way it’s changed how I hunt. Scouting your way into an area, slowly, and then picking out a tree to hunt is much easier with the saddle than having a stand on your back

It’s probably not for everyone. But for me, I’ll probably never go back to a climber or lock on
