Ruger gp100 6” here. It’s a beast and fun to shoot. I’ve got a chest holster I use when in the woods or on a tractor. I like it. It is big but if I run out of bullets, I can beat something to death with it.

What's your favorite length for your 357 mag revolvers?
Best of both worlds in my opinion

King Cobra is the smaller frame. If that's acceptable, don't rule out the Ruger SP101. I have the 4" and 2". Add the Pachmyr diamond grips and it fits like a glove.
686 and GP100 is just a preference thing. I like the action and the fit of my 686 in my hand better but the Ruger is a much better gun. It can repetitively shoot the Buffalo Bore loads so it's you want to play with high powered ammo then the Ruger is it.

I have a Python with a 4” barrel and it’s perfect. Also have a Super Blackhawk 44mag with a 7.5” barrel and it’s way too long

Spend big bucks and buy a Freedom Arms Model 97 with 5 1/2 inch barrel.
Get the factory trigger job !!!

I have a vintage Model 19 that has a 6 inch barrel. It is a great pistol, but I wish that I had the smaller barrel.

I have a s&w 686+ in 2.5” and a 686-1 in 6”.
They’re both sweet guns. 6” is my favorite.
If I wanted a bit more practicality a 4” would be great. Had they had one at the place I got those I’d have grabbed it too. I wanted one, but couldn’t decide which length. So both it was…

I used to conceal carry a 3" GP100. It was plenty short, and 4" wouldn't have been a problem either. The barrel length doesn't really turn into a carry or draw problem until it's over 5" IMO.
Between 4 and 5 seems to be the sweet spot to me. Colt got it right long ago with the 4.6" or whatever the ejector rod length peacemaker is. Good sight radius and good draw stroke. Shorter gets louder quickly, and longer starts to feel like a hand rifle.

I have owned multiple Tauruses and none have had a single problem. Three are revolvers: a 357 snubnose, a 6.5” 357, and the 44 mag raging Hunter.
I like long barrels but not for what you’re going to use it for. I’d think a 4” barrel would be about right.

Buddy of mine is an avid reloader, shooter and collector of handguns.
Years ago he bought a 6 inch 686.
Told me if he could go back, he would have bought the 4 inch
