Well...maybe not need as much I want one. Not planning on cutting thick arse aluminum or anything crazy. Just something to speed up some weekend projects. Also, there are some things I just can't do with my chop some and I try to minimize my use of my Metabo because that thing scares me. I am not married to a brand as I have Lincoln and Hobart welders.

Recommendations?

I bought a Lotos LTP5000 about 6 months ago. I've used it a handful of times and it works great. You need an air drier as well so you dont use up your consumables quickly . I bought mine on eBay for 329 with free shipping. The same model at Home Depot is 460

Never heard of that brand.

I was looking at Miller because I know they make some good cutters but for that price I could buy Hypertherm which are the best in the business.

Looking at this one

Cut master 42 or 52

You also need a compressor or a cylinder of nitrogen

I have a Thermal Dynamics but not sure of the model number. It will cut 1-1/4" steel without a problem. It probably gets more use than our torch.

Those are both good brands. Why wouldn't you just use OA (unless you just want a new toy)?

As for replacing the cutoff saw, get a handheld bandsaw. Milwaukee and Dewalt have good ones, but the big one at Harbor Freight is also decent. The damn wall is black behind where I use my cutoff saw. Bandsaws have lots of advantages

I shopped a good bit and the Lotos got pretty good reviews. I couldn't see spending 1500 on something I don't use often. I do have a Hobart mig welder and it's been flawless . I bought the plasma to cut steel plate and expanded metal for a smoker I am building.

As far as cutoff saws I have a Dewalt 872 cold cut saw that uses a carbide blade. You can cut solid 1" bar stock and the piece will not even be hot when you are cutting. Does not "lead" like a friction saw. Cuts very square. A good band saw also has its place.

I live in BFE and if I run out in the middle of a project it's PITA to worry about a refill. Plus, it's just easier to not have to worry about bottles.

That's great for angle and flat bar but I figure the plasma will be great for all projects like one I am working on now with angle, diamond plate, and sheets of expanded metal.

I get that.

Looking at their reviews on Amazon and it seems sketchy a little to me. They are all well-written reviews like they were paid for by the company or something. All of them are 5 stars and written like magazine articles. Weird.

Glad your's works for you and thanks for the recommendation.

I have a Hypertherm that 30 that I've never had any trouble with. If you are working with sheet metal, it is almost indispensable. Stainless sheet is a pain without one.

ESAB make a good plasma and the consumables are pretty reasonable. Lots of models to choose from but I would stay clear of hypotherm

For aluminum sheet and plate use a skil saw with a carbide blade. It'll cut cleaner and straighter than you ever will with a torch.

I'd just get a Hobart plasma cutter for weekend projects. You'll be fine with that. They get good reviews and will last long enough.
