That looks awesome!

What’s the best way to remove my sprayed in liner to get to bear metal? I want to try this winter to install hydroturf.
Posted on 11/13/18 at 5:36 pm to choupic
Could you not go over the spray in liner?
I would be interested in knowing this as well.

That would be awesome if that is possible, lol.

Tried to get to metal in this spot before starting. It made an absolute shite show of a mess turning the paint and texture into spider web that was flying everywhere. 10 minute of grinding and I was about to throw in the towel. Buddy of mine who does boat customization for a living told me it would stick as long as the paint and texture are stuck to the metal. So far so good. As long as you clean it good with Dawn, let it dry, the use denatured alcohol, 3m backed turf with 3m spray, you should be good to go.

I agree with Coot. As long as the subsurface is clean, it'll stick

Has anyone used SeaDek? Why is it supposedly better.
Posted on 11/13/18 at 8:45 pm to GREENHEAD22
Not sure if it is actually better. I dont know anyone that bought sheets of SeaDek and cut their own panels. The boats I’ve seen at my buddies place are all super expensive, custom cut, and have routed edges with logos and rulers that look bad arse brand new. I’ve never seen any that have been put through the elements and used for a while to see how they hold up. For what I use my boats for, $400 total to turf both of them myself is more than enough.

It’s great! Store boat indoors when not using and you won’t get much fade if any at all.

Can’t believe those exposed edges won’t come up eventually when kicked or rubbed wrong ?????

Probably one of the best things on the market.

marsh man is that a tiller setup. what motor and boat? speed?
what exactly does the turf do, I have bare floors on my sportsman fab and think the turf looks cool, but can't think what purpose it serves

Mine never did, never underestimate the strength of 3m adhesive.
Bare foot in August is the best reason.

It cooler in the summer on bare feet. Quieter than metal. Provides cushion. Provides a slip resistant surface. Protects stuff like guns and rods when you throw them in the boat.

19’x54” boat w/115 mercury pro xs tiller. Runs around 49mph. Haven’t broken it in fully to get a exact number.
As far as the edges on the turf it doesn’t move as long as you do the correct prep work. Sand and acetone as boot said.

I bought and cut rolls of SeaDek for my 16 footer, it was around 6-700 dollars versus 2000 for them to custom fit.
It is good stuff, color is green with not much fade after 4+ years, I have a couple of burn holes, but the big mess is the neighborhood cats using it to sharpen their claws, those cats are no longer around by the way.

Anyone know anywhere i can get hydro turf custom cut? I was planning on going with seadek and mailing them my template. But, to save money, i may go with hydroturf if i can find someone to custom cut the corners.
I am wanting to cover the custom non-skid on my bay boat. There are plenty of rounded edges that i would not be able to cut correctly and it would drive me crazy.
ETA.
I just called Seadek to get a rough estimate, this stuff is high as giraffe arse. For my 22' bay boat, they told me it would be in the $2,500-3,000 range.
I'll stick to trying to find someone to custom cut hydro turf locally.

I'd have to imagine it would be the same process of making and sending templates, drawing them up in a CAD program, then loading the file into a machine. That 2,500-3,000 is mostly paying for all of that rather than paying for the actual material.
Make templates like I did with translucent bond and transfer it to the turf, then pre-cut it before you even peel off the backing. It cuts like butter with a sharp blade but I went through a couple packs of blades cutting with a straight edge on concrete. I just free-handed the rounded edges and it came out way better than I expected.

buy a roll and use sheets of cardboard to cut out shape. then trace out cardboard onto roll.
