I'm not qualified to judge the age and score of a deer on the hoof

I wasn't either until I tried. I learned by watching Dr James Kroll, and QDMA hunting shows instead of Hey Look at me hunting this private ranch and making jokes.. Nothing wrong with those but, they don't help you learn about deer. We try to help with that too, we go to seminars held at the local universities or when we go to hunting shows we go to the classes that teach that stuff. Trust me as the VP I don't want to have to deal with all the bs... If you can't get along then you will GIT along down the road.... Everything else can be worked around. I'm there to hunt and have a good time, so don't ruin it by not using common sense.

Also, We were on DMAP and I would guess the age of ever deer I saw that came into the skinning shed, then after the season I would see the report and compare my notes. The first year I was way off but, I got better every year and now I can age one pretty good, scoring though.... I'm still working on it. I was close with this one. I said it was 100-110 and it was 114 4/8.

There was a rule in my last club that really bothered me. No alcohol on site.

I cannot claim to be able to age deer, but I know one over 3 when I see it. Made the decision easy on this 6 point even at a place with very strict rules and fines,

The members were pretty happy to see this one leave.

and herein lies the reason most clubs have rules

I could not be a member of a "if it's brown, it's down club"

no way I'm paying money to hunt basically public land

Alcohol is not allowed in the woods at our camp.
Whether skinning a deer or drinking away that missed opportunity, it's best left for after the hunt anyway. IMO

It works both ways.
I'm payin my money, why should one person dictate what I can and can't shoot.

I agree. This rule was-not even in your truck locked in an ice chest.

That's the way our club is. Except it's the opposite.

This is the rule at ours. Now, if you have a camp off club property, that's your business. I am glad to know that I'm not in the woods with someone under the influence or hung over.
