What kind of rules do you have at your camp?

in stand time (morning/evening)

out of stand time (morning/evening)

size of deer taken

guest hunts

private stand placement

I am used to hunting just my dad brother and I.. we recently expanded to a larger tract and have taken on some new members. I am the "president" of the club and just looking for some suggestions to make this as smooth as possible. I know it's late to be doing this but better late than never. The club is in NWLA and a little over 600 acres. TIA

I'm not looking for anything that is overly burdensome more or less guidelines and so we aren't disrupting each others hunts.

For one thing, rules should be voted on. Should not be a dictatorship.

I'm not in a lease but the last one I was in that wasn't "overly burdensome" was pretty much each mans stand ishis property to allow or not allow whomever to hunt and follow state laws. If you and another member have an issue settle it amongst yourselves.

in stand time (morning/evening)
Be in 30 min before sunrise. Usually cant come out before 9 unless emergency.

On stand in evening by 3:30. the last club I was in I pushed to have a rule made about coming out after dark with no success. One hunter had night vision and would stay till 8pm to see what was coming out after dark

size of deer taken
good luck

guest hunts
$20 a day regardless of morning and evening or one hunt. Deer killed come from members allotment of deer

quote:

private stand placement
Free range as long as its safe. Draw straws for stand selection if 2 or more people want to hunt a certain stand/area

Club i was in had mostly "club stands", you could do private stands but obviously not in the obvious food plot type spots already having stands.

We drew cards every day to determine selection of stand order by the members. The guest would get to choose after all members chose in the same order as their affiliating member order. It was good cause nobody got to claim a spot unfairly, always kept it mixed and nobody had too much ground for bitching.

I am a fan of declaring an area by a certain time. We used to hang markers on nails in a map of the land.

It used to be. Not so much any more. It's all intelligent grown men who get along though.

My way of thinking is dont make arse piles of rules and deal with the ones who create problems on a case to case basis. More rules=less fun IMO.

Btw I am talking about point restrictions or time restrictions and the like. Safety rules need to exist and need to be enforced.

that is great that you are on a good lease that the members can somewhat police themselves, but not all leases are created equal

I'm a firm believe in a good set of rules for leases. I was on a huge lease (13,000 acres with 80 members) and the rules were very lax after we got a new President, and the lease went to shite very quickly.
