Let me wade in with a slightly different line up.
I'm considering a Bergara b14, a Tikka CTR or a Browning X-Bolt all in 6.5cm for my son. Any thoughts?

Just purchased the B-14 wild ridge in 7mm rem mag w Leupold Vx-3 glass, for my boy. Love the gun. Barrel is not broken in yet and all ready shooting sub MOA. The muzzle brake and soft recoil pad make it a smoothe shooter as well. Not much recoil at all.

I just bought an x-bolt 7mm. Tikka was nice but x-bolt just felt better to me. I didn't like the browning trigger and replaced it with a timney.

Sloop, got your new rifle yet? Post the pics up when you get it, I’d love to see your setup.
Dying to get my HMR back out on the range.

I love Tikkas, but that CTR is shockingly heavy. You can buy a regular t3x lite and drop it in a cooler stock and it’ll weigh less and cost less, but the barrel won’t be threaded. I’ve shot the bergara b-14 ridge in 6.5 cm a lot and it is very nice, I just prefer the short throw and smoothness of tikkas.
I might get blasted for this but I don’t want another browning center fire, there’s almost no aftermarket support and a lot of gunsmiths don’t want to mess with them if you ever decide to rebarrel.

I just got a Vanguard Weatherguard in 30-06, and it’s an absolute shooter. I did just order a Timney trigger for it though.

Not Sloop, but I’ll keep it going while we wait, picked up a b14 in 6.5 prc today, can’t wait to put some rounds through it.

Did you try adjusting the Howa factory trigger?

Everybody recommends howa/vanguard

Hell I like the trigger setting that came with my Vanguard, need to look into adjusting it.

.308 Ridge Wilderness. Zero complaints and very fun to shoot!

I did, and there’s nothing “wrong” with it. I just prefer a single stage.

That’s a fine looking piece of armory right there.

I've shot both and prefer the Howa.
Vanguard uses Howa barrels. Howa sells barreled actions decently priced, you can add your own stock.

Actually I think the Vanguard action and barrel are made by Howa and relabeled Vanguard.

Yeah, Howa describes the trigger as "two stage," but mine don't feel like a traditional two stage trigger. Mine have a little loose take up followed by an "engagement" type feel to the trigger. All serious guns need to have a trigger that satisfies it's shooter.

FYI Timney has a big backlog currently.
