Been looking for a new grill. Buddy of mine has a six year old Weber genesis his wife bought him that he doesn't use. Says he likes using charcoal. Its dirty from sitting up but shows no sign of corrosion. What says the OB, buy used and how much would you pay?

Depends on the model...a third to half the cost of a new one, comparable.

Six year old gas grill? $75 tops unless it is one of the very expensive models, then maybe $100 tops. You may have to replace parts, which are pricey. I have a seven year old Weber and I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it because it has been used a lot.

It's a 700 dollar grill new. He's probably used it less than twenty times.

Pics? Six years is pretty old for any grill, unless it's seldomly (less than 4 times a year) used and kept in a climate controlled area. Things rust, corrode, wear out, etc. We would really need to see pics for a good assessment. What is the condition of the grill grates, burners, and flavorizer bars? Based on my experience, these are the parts that will need to be replaced at some point. Assuming overall condition is excellent - $300, better than average - $200, average - $100.

I'd offer him $100 to get it out of his way, then see if he counters. He probably wouldn't get over $200 on Craigslist, so you get a little break for convenience sakez

FYI the webers since they are high quality are very easy to completely rebuild the internals with parts from the website. Then it looks absolutely brand new. I just did this with one that was put to the curb.

More like 150 for the grill itself. But I agree, since I switched from gas back to a Weber charcoal, I grill a lot more with minimal time difference and a ton more enjoyment.

I would offer 100 and see what he counters with. Those grills are worth a lot since you can get replacement parts for them and they have good steel on them.

Actually the gold is $300 because it is like 27" diameter - I have an older performance series with the charcoal lighter and it is great. To me the food tastes so much better cooked over charcoal..

My older model Weber Genesis is a good 15 years old. It's a quality grill and has held up well. I use it regularly and have replaced the starter, flavorizor bars, grates and burners a few times. They are pricey but are a lot cheaper than buying a new grill every few years.

You're getting a great deal at anything under $300 if it has only been lightly used and kept out of the weather.

The performer is 350 the stand alone with the tripod is 150 for the gold.

I believe they are 22.5

They have an OTG 22 too, that is what I was looking at.

I do like charcoal and have a small weber kettle for that, but alot of times I get home late and like being able to just light the pit and throw something on it. I looked at his pit last night and it has nothing wrong, very little use. Just needs to be cleaned up, (dust). It's never been in the weather and he asked 200. I think I'm going to offer him 150 and see what he says.
