I know everyone will probably have different opinions but just want to see what everyone thinks. They are filets frozen in ziplocks full of water.

I’ve cooked trout 14 months old frozen in water that tasted great. That’s the oldest I’ve cooked so can’t tell you when to chunk them.

I've kept them for as long as about 6 months, but we eat a lot of fish, so they never last longer than that. So, if frozen covered in water I know they'll be good for at least 6 months.

A few years if packed right. I'm still eating bass from 2017. Just soak in milk for 30 minutes if they smell strong

My FIL is talking about frying bream that’s been the freezer 1.5 to 2 years. I’ll let you know if we all die or not. Trust me, I’m a little hesitant about it but I ain’t saying nothing.

I’m pretty sure they’ll die quickly in a freezer... try a cat first for testing.

I’ve seen mine last over a year in water and ziplocks so I never changed, but those who use vacuum packers, do y’all see same results?

after about a year they might get a little freezer burned on the edges if there is an air pocket or if the meat is right against the baggy so barely any water to protect it. the meat gets discolored (white) if its freezer burned but its still good to eat and i just trim off any freezer burned bits.

i never had any hang around longer then 2 years and it was still good then

Me and my dad did a bunch of trout both ways one time to compare and I thought the ones frozen in water lasted better, personally.
I do still need to finally pick up a vac sealer for other game though...

I use my vacuum packet allot for all meats but for fish... I think it’s very hard to beat good ole quart bag and water. Like I said, I’ve cooked some over a year old and it tasted fine.

Agreed - for white fleshed fish. Red meat, oily fleshed fish - tuna, mackerel - maybe not more than several months.

Just curious, can you freeze Redfish on the half shell?

I only have freshwater fish in the freezer so that's all I can speak to...

But if they're frozen in ziplocs with water and all the air squeezed out (I also add a pinch of Tony's before squeezing air out), I've eaten them after almost 2 years frozen and they were fine.

Just a few days ago I cooked up a couple bags of flathead chunks that I froze in September of 2017 and it was pretty tasty (I ALWAYS date my bags with permanent marker so I can eat the oldest first)

Two years guaranteed. After that I haven't tried yet. If it is past its time it will not kill ya, just taste bad.

I live in Louisiana. Why would I ever freeze fish when a fresh supply is 30 minutes away.
