I have no idea of a bait that would be attractive to hogs and not bears
I know nothing about bears, but do you think they would be attracted to rotten corn or corn soaked in diesel like hogs are?

I’m sure the bears would love the rotten corn.Diesel soaked corn,I don’t know, hopefully they would avoid it.It works pretty good to keep coons from eating it.
White Bear-What do you mean “reverse engineer” it.Boar Buster has a website and there are videos on you tube.I think it’s the best trap made. There are several corral traps with drop gates ,also you can buy the gates and make your own corral. The hogs get trap shy pretty quick with the corral type traps, more so than the Boar Buster.I think they even get corn shy.I had seen a bunch of rooting on one part of my property so I put a pile of corn and a camera to see how many there were.It was only 2 boars but they would come separately. They wouldn’t eat the corn, they would stand 3 feet away from it and stare at it
I would have dozens of pictures like over an hour, then they would leave. Finally after about 4 nights one of them ate it.I figured they had been shot at while eating corn at some point.I didn’t bother trying to catch them,It’s a pain in the butt to move the trap and I didn’t think I could catch them anyway..

Bad enough that I wish that they would legalize the poison and worry about the consequences later.

The latest data in for Missouri Conservation hog trapping program is they killed over 10,000 feral hogs in 2019.
Would that make a dent in LA?

I’m attempting to diy the camera and remote trigger system. I can use a mobile gate/trigger on my typical corral traps. Problem is I don’t want to cough up $8k for a trigger system.

10k is a drop in the bucket I think the hog population in LA is over 500k

JagerPro has gate and camera system for about $2600.00
Hogeye camera system is about $2500.00.That is the one used with my trap.
I think there are videos on You Tube where people made their own camera/trigger systems but that is way beyond my capabilities.
JagerPro website has lots of good info on hog control, trapping, etc.
JagerPro article explains that trapping is a process,it’s not as easy as one might think.
It’s not as easy as I thought it was,my best catch was 22 but it took 12 days.I prebaited the spot for 7days,then put the trap.1st night they didn’t come. Then 3 nights they ate the bait except the biggest sow wouldn’t go in, finally the 4th night the big sow went in and I dropped the trap and caught the whole bunch.I have caught some other smaller groups that were easier,1st night I placed the trap they went in and I caught them.
I really wish I didn’t have to deal with any of this crap,it’s not want I want to be doing in my retirement.

Latest estimate, over 700,000 hogs in LA and it’s growing exponentially. To stop population growth, you have to kill 70% or 500,000 each year. LDWF reports around 350,000 being killed each year.

Edit, and thank you for the camera/latch info.
