Just saw they wlf put out deer season dates and say again. Doe days. Not surprised but wtf do we have to do to fix this. How f*ucking stupid is the leadership of wlf.

It is a government agency in one of the least efficient states in the country.
They have not given me any reason to trust or believe that they are anything other than the DMV in green jeans.

I just got into a new lease in area 9. The either sex days threw me for a loop. Like what is the point?

Yea
What’s it matter if you kill a doe on those days or not
If the population can’t support killing your 3 does anytime maybe lower the limit and do away with doe days
Wlf has never been very efficient in managing the deer herd

I thought deer tags did away with this.

If you kill them after they are pregnant instead of before then they will not be able to have the fawns they are pregnant with. Same for keeping fish with eggs you are not allowing them to lay eggs so wiping out the whole school.

Can you be a little more clear about what the issue is? I don’t really have an opinion on the situation, don’t deer hunt much any longer.

If you want to kill bucks, it’s probably better to kill a bunch of does early so the bucks have to move around more to find does to breed. Just my .02

I kinda don’t mind doe days in low deer populated areas such as the swamps in area 9.
If you have to work or have a family obligation on doe day that’s on you. That’s one reason I believe there’s doe days. Along with the “I see does all week but come Saturday/Sunday I don’t see any” again, that saves a doe to maybe have fawns come springtime.
Now I don’t agree with doe days cause this will make hunters just looking for meat shoot 3 spikes a season.

So, man who doesn't hunt area 9 has no issue with doe days in area 9?
They are fricking terrible and the only reason we still have them is because it's an attempt to force people into DMAP, a revenue source for LDW&F.

Completely idiotic that you have to scrutinize the rules to find out when you can kill a doe on public land, but you can kill one anytime just across the line. I guess the rule making federal authority has to justify their paycheck somehow, even though most of them couldn't find their arse with both hands.
Kill what you want if you need some meat.

Well I do hunt in area 9 some and like I said, I don’t mind having doe days in low deer populated areas.

Buddy area 9 does not have a problem with low deer or doe numbers. I have a video I can show you in January where I’m looking a 9 mature does. Our problem is we barely experience a rut anymore because our ratio is that off. And god forbid you work shift work like most the population of hunters in area 9 do

A doe day in the marsh of south plaquemines makes sense.
A doe day in the pine woods of livingston at I-12 seems odd.

Not disagreeing with you but that’s 1 stand in 1 small area.
My section of area 9 is waste deep swamp with not a great population of deer so I’m good with ldwf having doe days in that area.
As for the piney woods of Livingston parish ldwf probably has doe days there cause they know every redneck in that area would destroy the deer population if not for doe days! haha
I’m pretty sure there’s a reason behind ldwf keeping doe days in certain areas besides just to piss people off or a money grab. Who knows, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe ldwf just wants to piss off area 9 hunters cause they can.

It did, then the flood happened and we’re right back in the 90’s. Ditch goats must be the most confusing game to manage?

The flood is the reason for sure
Louisiana has so many different habitats across the state and within the same parishes it’s hard to lump them all together into one Area. That’s why we have 10 areas We could probably make it 20 You can chase rutting deer in Louisiana from September until February (and probably March) I can hunt the Pineywoods of north Louisiana and peak rut is Thanksgiving and go one parish over closer to the Mississippi River and they won’t even think about rutting for another month
Most other states have at most two or three deer zones

But then you have to determine where to draw the line as to where a doe day will be enforced in area 9. Like Dan was sayin, he sees them where he is at. But the dude who is huntin jefferson parish or plaquemines parish wont see as much.
But then, area 10 doesnt even have it atleast i dint think.
IMO if they are catching trout and redfish within the deer habitat limits in area 9, a doe day should apply
