$50 knockoff carburetor or $260 for Honda part

Anyone ever used a knockoff and it went well? I see a lot of good reviews but you just never know.

Though I always replace carbs on lawn implements, including using knockoffs, b/c they are so cheap, have you considered using a Honda OEM rebuilt carb kit first - cheaper than a $300+ OEM carb. Did this with my Yamaha ATV carb, along with a thorough cleaning, and now runs like new.

I am concerned about having to replace all the jets and o-rings. Maybe messing up the idle speed, etc.

My thought is that just replacing it whole, would be easier. Just don't want to invest that much money in a Honda part if the cheaper version is good.

I've used the knock off versions on a couple of ATVs, blower, and weed eater, all with success. It is worth a shot.

I put one a Honda Foreman about 3 years ago and have not had any problems with it.

The clone will probably work just fine, but it might not give you the next 15 years (or more) of life like the oem. My dad replaced his 2001 Rancher oem with a clone a couple of years ago...I borrowed his rancher to ride during this quarantine and it started leaking gas. I took it off and disassembled/cleaned everything, float/needle looked good, put it back on and it ran fine for a day and started leaking again. Float/needle is apparently sticking. Said all that to say that the clone internally/externally looked well built.

I’d give the clone a shot...get a rebuilt kit for the oem..rebuild it for a quick swap when the clone starts acting up.

Keep the jets from the old carb and install on the new one. One of the big issues I've read about/experienced on knockoff carbs is incorrect jet sizing.

Spent 50 bucks on a zoom zoom carb for an older fourwheeler this year. It came out of the box dialed in perfect. Im sure there are differences between OEM Mikuni and a Chinese knockoff but I can’t see them. I am ordering a second one to throw in the bike’s dry box with the couple hand tools I’ll need to swap it in the woods.

Don’t be intimidated if you do have to dial in a little, that risk would be true of even an OEM. No carb is supposed to be perfectly set for your machine out of the box, but sometimes you get lucky. 10 min YouTube video and you’ll have it ready to go.

Dang, this is a good idea. especially if you vacuum seal it. I'm ordering one for my bayou 220 now. All it takes to remove is a screwdriver and some pliers.

Yep, multiple guys had carb issues over the course of the season that ended up being water related. A dry carb and a 10mm socket would have saved them having to haul it back to be worked on.

quad is almost 20 yrs old … = chinese knock off. I have replaced a cpl of honda lawnmower carbs w/ knock offs, no issues. Not gonna spend $100 on a carb for a lawnmower that's not worth that

Funny this thread popped up as I am going to start giving new life to a 20 yr old Yamaha bear tracker 250. Am also looking at the knockoff carb kits on amazon for $50. Op report back once you install.

Those things are a wildcard. Some people have no problems. Some people do.

I replaced carb on 05 rancher with the "Chonda" carb. I learned my lesson. Never ran right. Sputtered in and out. Had to replace with Genuine Honda carb.

You can take the risk if you want, but the Honda part is guaranteed.

I have a Chinese carb on my grizzly 660. I did at the same time order a rebuild kit for the original. Chinese carb still working perfect, original rebuilt and sitting on the shelf if I need it.

I'm not much help on the Foreman question, but I have replaced a least 5 carbs on various lawn equipment with cheap Chinese carbs and have never had to adjust even 1.

If it were me, I'd definitely give it a shot on a 4 wheeler.

Buy 4 knockoffs and save $60. Youll be set for life.

If it’s not leaking gas but just running bad I’d rebuild it. You don’t have to touch the idle screw at all in a rebuild. Heck I leave the knob on and such when I run them in my sonic cleaner. The knock offs are hit and miss. I find even the good ones don’t run as smooth as oem.
