how many hogs have been killed since they started the helicopter eradications?

Would be pretty hard to quantify, but a lot.

What I'm really curious about is whether the folks in Texas who have been plagued with these hogs have noticed a drop in the hog population or any significant reduction in crop damage since they started the heli hunts? I figger they've eliminated a lot of hogs, and at what point (in numbers) do they hafta attain before they notice a big difference? I'm sure that depends on the hog population when you start, but these eradication hunts have GOT to be helping to get em under control? Are they anywhere approaching the 70% kill proportion that BP said has to be reached before the population becomes static? Or are they killing only 20 - 30%, for instance? I say that every one that is killed is a positive thing.

Louisiana has a lot of flat, open farmland like Texas?

Yeah, but we don't have the huge ownership blocks like they do in Texas. You do this in Louisiana and you are quickly on someone else's property and then you have going to have ground to air gunfire exchanged.

The state/fed govt is doing some hog control via helis in Louisiana, and they have been quite effective based upon reports from USDA/APHIS.

Those are dirty filthy varmits that mankind should aim to eradicate. I don't even give those swine the decency od a quick kill anymore. I shoot to mortally wound them so they will get the hell away from my deer stands before the yotes finish them off.

Had the chance to do it. It was one of the most fun days of my life.

WLF had a bill passed this year that allows for helicopter owners to enter into agreements with land owners and hunt from the air. Its very similar to the permit/private rules they have in Texas. The bill can be found here: LINK

The state hunts were very successful. They have seen major regrowth in Pass A Loutre since they started slaughtering them a few years back.
