Hard piped natural gas grills

Just bought a new house and I have a natural gas line on my back porch that currently just has a pipe cap on it. Anyone ever done this? Do I need to buy a grill made for NG or any grill and a conversion kit? Advice needed.

Yes. Best to buy the grill that is built from the factory for use of Nat gas. Propane (or LPG) is high pressure and nat gas is low pressure. Internal valves and burners are very different.
go nat gas, it's cheaper and easier. you'll never have to fill a bottle or worry about cooking during long power outages. I've gone through a couple hurricanes and the 2016 flood and never worried with having enough gas in the bottle to cook meals long term.

Natural gas grills are a game changer, just turn a valve and go. I feel my cooking is extremely consistent on it too. Go ahead and get you a Webber and have them build it and pick up complete. Grill building is so miserable.

Was looking at Weber but dayum they think alot of them. I think I want one with stainless racks. I'm tired of the racks rusting and corroding. Got any model recommendations?

I have a blaze that's all solid SS and lifetime warranty including the grates. Love it so far and haven't had any issues. was around $900 so little more than a weber but I felt was alot beefier.

I have had on installed for about 7 years. Works great. I salvaged parts off of a propane grill, drilled out the orifices - works great.
One problem - a propane bottle will eventually run out if you forget to turn off the grill. Natural gas from the street does not run out. If it stays on for 2 weeks, it will burn up the grate and burners (first hand experience). They make a timer valve to install on the gas line to close it automatically. Recommend you install one

So you didn't notice your grill was still burning for 2 weeks?

Get a grill that is fitted for natural gas

Oh man I didn't think about this. I could totally see this happening to me. This has always been my problem with smokers. I pass out mid smoke and wake up with a half cooked cold piece of meat.

The problem with Weber grills is that parts are readily available. I've been itching to upgrade for years but my two 18 year old grills just keep working with a minor rebuild every now & then.

Pretty much - natural gas seems to burn pretty clean

I call it a drunk valve

Remove the pipe cap and install a valve (for gas service of course), then install a quick connect hose fitting. This gives you latitude to move the grill around and easily disconnect when not in use.
You can get these at Goodwood Hardware in Baton Rouge, or on the interwebs these guys are pretty good.

my dad's weber had a low pressure regulator on it. he just pulled the regulator off and hardlined it to the natural gas on the house. works great.

My brother had the exact same thing happen to him. He will usually let the pit burn off the oils and fats after he pulls the meat off. So he did that and forgot to shut the valve off. It completely destroyed the grates but he was able to replace them pretty easily.
After using his I honestly wish my house had a gas line back there. It’s very convenient to never have to check the bottle.

Happened to me as well, but only overnight. I now leave a light on as a reminder.

Leave it capped and get yourself a ceramic grill.
I have a Primos because the XL has the largest cooking surface, but they have many manufactures like Green Egg or similar brands. I was talked into this by the supplier when putting in my outdoor kitchen and I have not regretted it one bit (he also sold the gas grills).

I bought a Weber Genesis NG grill a coupe years ago. Couldn’t be happier. It replaced a Charmglow brand that came with the house.
I wanted one of the different colored ones but the NG version only came in black when I bought mine.
