H&K Question: VP9 or P30SK

Looking for a carry pistol. These both seem to fit the bill. My neighbor is retired police and currently working freelance for the FBI. He swears that he will never carry a striker fired weapon.
What says the Outdoor Board? Both weapons get glowing reviews from everything I've seen online.
Thanks.

If you want a hammer gun do they still make the LEM? The DA pull on HK DA/SA is pretty bad, at least on the P30s. Feels like a heavy staple gun. My vote is VP9.
He’s full of crap ?? f he thinks strikers aren’t safe. I bet 90% of LE Carries some sort of striker pistol.

I carry a VP9. It is perfect for me. I have tried to replace it several times, and I just can’t seem to shoot better with anything else.
All I own is striker fired pistols.

Just because he’s a former police officer and FBI whatever, that has absolutely zero bearing on his knowledge of guns
95% of police shoot only enough to qualify with their weapons.

Oh, I get it. I'm not saying that I value his opinion anymore than anyone else's. It just that his background keeps me from dismissing it without asking around. It doesn't help that I can't find any critical reviews on the differences.

I can’t speak to the P30 as I’ve never messed with one but I have a VP9. The trigger in the gun is one of the best on the market for striker fired guns.

That number is probably really high. I bet less than 1% shoot recreationally.
VP9 is a great gun. P30SK is great gun. I like DA/SA guns but they are not for everyone. Some of the HK trigger are horrendous...

You also may want to consider the VP9sk. It's the subcompact version of the VP9. Might be the ticket the for you.

HKs are great, either sk would be a great carry pistol.
I like the hammer and double action only combo (LEM variants of the P30sk or P2000sk). Mine was not a light LEM, so I started messing with it using HK or other approved by HK parts. I uploaded a video of the action to show uptake (THE safety, pressing your thumb on the hammer being the other).

H&K whore here that vp9 is a nice gun not shot the p30

You will need to do finger curls if you shoot the DA/SA P30. It also has a feeling like you are bending the plastic trigger when you pull it. Add that to the progressive gritty take up and you have the makings of the worst DA pull currently available.
It’s crazy because everything else about it exudes quality as far as polymer pistols go.

Had my VP9 for about 7 years...absolutely love it. Haven't shot the P30SK, but you most likely won't go wrong with either. Go see which fits your hand better.

I have both, well I have the 2000sk which is very similar to the P30. I carry the P200sk. It's a version 3 (non lem) that i can decock and carry that way. The DA trigger pull is around 10-11 lbs. The SA pull is 4-5. Both nice but since i'm a civilian and not Law enforcement i prefer DA/SA firearms. If i carried everyday and expected to have to use it (law) then the VP9 would be my choice.

You look at my video? All it takes a few springs, some nickel coated bits, and some mechanical talent to make HK triggers into pure gold.
ETA: There are lots of parts, more so in the LEM, but no ‘modifications’ of anything required. Beauty of a hammer fired semi, you can keep fiddling until you’re happy.

So is the OP limiting his options to just the H&K?? If so, the VP9-B is great... but don't overlook the CZ line. The P10C or if you want hammer fired, the P-07 or P-09.

I picked up a VP45 last week. In double action, you really have to want to pull the trigger. In SA, the trigger is pretty good. I have the V1 trigger group with the decocker safety. It was NIB & marked down at Academy for $600 and I decided to give it a new home.
Also own a VP9 which is great.

I think people would love it if HK made this.
