Need to buy my first grill. Not opposed to charcoal but lean towards a gas grill.

Is the BGE really that much better than anything else? I’m not looking for a contest just generally curious about everyone’s insights before I make a purchase.

Was looking at Weber’s but do not lean towards anything

-something that can cook quickly and youre not worried about adding some good flavor to? (Hot dogs, burgers, fajitas, etc). Gas grill will be good. Weber is the standard all are compared to, but I have a several year old char-broil that has held up well too.

-longer cooks and want a better flavor? (Steaks, pork chops, ribs, chicken, etc) charcoal is probably the way to go. Just remember that it takes more time getting it started and getting to where you can cook. If you are wanting something quick and easy on weekdays after work, propane is probably easier.

-ceramics. Can do it all, smoke bbq low and slow, grill regularly, even get scorching hot like an oven. Downsides are they are expensive, and also slow to light compared to a propane grill as well.

A great answer is to have all of them. I use an offset for bbq and regular grilling, a propane for quick cooks like burgers, and will eventually get a ceramic for set it and forget it bbq and other stuff.

The versatility you have with a BGE is what makes it better than anything else. I have been cooking on one for a little over two years and love it. They are obviously expensive, but will last forever and can do everything.

I don't own a gas grill, I have a primo and a weber kettle. I use them for different things and use them both often.

Yes they make Duo grills, they even have charcoal/gas combo with smoker boxes for relatively cheap, check academy or Lowe’s.

Yes....they are everywhere at Lowes/Home Depot.

I'm a charcoal man myself. Half the fun of grilling is sipping on a cold beverage while you watch your coals heat up.

I love my pellet grill - Traeger but get the smaller one it gets hotter.

It is as easy and quick as gas but with better flavor.

I've got this guy

https://www.weber.com/US/en/grills/performer-deluxe-charcoal-grill

It can do everything

It has a propane starter that can help light your coals faster, but I use a chimney starter because I find thats the best way to light coals quickly and efficiently. And this S.O.B. can get HOT.

I've also used it to smoke ribs, chickens, briskets. Smoking is a little tougher because you have to monitor it a lot more but there are plenty of videos available

And they last forever. But if they don't last some of the components are covered under warranty for 10 years.

There's a reason Weber has been around so long

I love my Weber Genesis. I'm on year 5 and it has been superb. Great warranty and availability of parts. I haven't had to touch any of the internals as of yet.

I bought a Hasty Bake after going through to 200-300 grills every few years. It does everything I want. It has a movable fire grate where i can smoke, sear or whatever else. Has plenty of cooking space. Biggest thing for me is they have been in business since 1948 and you can buy replacement parts.

The standard Weber kettle is probably the most versatile grill for the most bang for your buck.

Find one at a garage sale for $50, polish the enamel coating, and voila: brand new grill

Tried to talk my brother and FIL into an egg or Primo back several years ago after I got mine (which was in 2009).

They didn’t do it and both are about to buy their third grill in that time. My FIL is buying a used egg. My brother hasn’t wised up yet.

Best cooking purchase I've ever made. Period. If something happened to mine tomorrow I'd go buy another one. They are super easy to learn to cook on

I've had my Weber Genesis Silver B for 13 years so there's that. I've replaced the cast iron grates and flavorings bars once. Igniter is kaput but I just light it manually now.

Order this old standby and you will be very happy

Charbroil 940X

They have been making it since the fifties. It weighs almost 200 lbs. My first one lasted 17 years in the rain. I have had my second one for 7 or 8 years.

I can smoke on this better than I can my smoker. I can grill on it easily. It has removable ash pan. You can more the fire up and down and it has a front door to add coals with.

It is absolutely the best charcoal grill you can buy IMHO. Those egg shaped ceramics cannot hold much compare to this grill and are WAY over priced.

Get a primo over a BGE if you go that route.

I had propane for years and was about to put one in my new house until Wickwick showed me the light. Use a MAP torch to light...fun and fast.
