Just a jighead with a plastic. 1/4 ounce jighead with a paddle tail plastic of some sort, preferably with a chartreuse tail. Purple/Ch, Root Beer/Ch, Glow/Ch, and Black/Ch are probably my favorites. To me, that's the best lure for sight casting.

No doubt. I use a spoon or spinnerbait to cover lots of water in deeper bays and bayous or cuts where I'm not really sight-fishing. When sight-fishing, it's just a light jighead with a plastic of whatever bait I see them chasing. Gulp shrimp if I see shrimp popping or reds grabbing crabs off the shoreline, or some sort of paddle tail if they are chasing baitfish.

I cast another vote for Wobble Rite 1/2 OZ gold hammered. I also recommend replacing the standard treble hook with a larger and stronger hook.

Where I fish, that's called a 'rake'. You don't throw no treble hooks marsh fishing for reds in the summer.

I have fond memories of polishing those bitches in the back seat while driving from Dothan to Marrero for a weekend fishing trip..
My granma gave me the last 4 Johnson Weedless in the old packaging that my grampa had in his closet last weekend at the funeral.

Thanks for this thread. I'm going to do my first attempt at red fishing next week and I really don't have a clue what I'm doing. I think this will be helpful to me.

I just wish Florida didn't have such low limits on them.

Will spoons like this also work on trout?

Yeah, One of the greatest days we ever had on redfish was on buzzbaits one day..... it was amazing, they absoluely destroyed tose things when they hit... by the time you got it in it looked like a paperclip beat to hell and back folded all kinds of ways....
I remember being young and bringing my bass box into the marsh... dad and grandad were telling me how dumb I was, scaring the fish away.... Back to back casts with a fish and they were digging all through my box

Yes but wobblerites work better for trout.

If you are fishing shallow water flats you should try a Top Dog Jr or a she dog top water bait. Redfish love them and so do trout.

Yes, I am. I am going to fish Mosquito Lagoon at Cape Canaveral and also the inter coastal waterway at St. Augustine. Both locations are supposed to have great fishing for both reds and trout.

I've always been a freshwater bass guy and I just bought a flats boat to expand my horizon into salt water flats fishing. I'm on vacation next week at St. Augustine and I'll be fishing my arse off if all goes well.

Me and my Father in law fish a little south of that area, we usually use some gulp or live shrimp and do well around docks and flats...

Don't be surprised if you hang a snook , I wish they had some in Louisiana.

Snook is my favorite catching/eating combination fish out there.

Relative of a largemouth and just as nasty. I absolutely murdered them when I was in West Florida.

I'm fishing weeks / vermilion bay area. I normally go out to Marsh Island, but sunday morning don't have a whole lot of time. Pretty sure the abundance of fish aren't there like in leeville area, but should see some action.

Is that near Indian River Lagoon?

I would definitely bring some topwater baits. Red head/White body, Chartreuse, Chrome, and Bone....but I say that based on fishing south la. The water may be real clear over there and the best baits may be different.

It is gin clear, and I would recommend a flouro-carbon leader. Not only is it clear, it's extremely highly pressured. Good fishing, but not Venice good.

the V. Bay is my home area. Usually fish the west side, but you're in an ok area. I've heard of a FEW specks being caught in the cove by the camps on the point. I'd just shoot for reds personally though.

yeah, doubt i'll see any specs. Was thinking of putting down in Avery island and fishing around the mouth of the Avery in weeks bay. maybe crossing and hitting the few cuts in the marsh east of Shark Bayou. 3rd try would be the rock piles. What you think Jim?
