If you have deer out in your plot, do you a)sit and wait til the are gone no matter time or b) get out anyway and take chance of spooking them off?

If I waited for deer to leave my plot I would never leave it either.

I get out. Deer act wayyyyyyyyy different in the dark and I don't think they really give too much of a damn about you.
I walked through a whole herd of deer sunday night after I just got tired of waiting for them to leave. I left my light off and I never heard one run or blow.

Aim in their general direction and start blasting.

shoot
If I am not trying to shoot, I'll make a wide semi-circle to where I need to be. I have actually had deer run up to me in the dark though. Scared the beejesus out of me.

I walked up to an 8 point in the dark once. Heard some leave rustle and decide to hit the flashlight to see what it was. Turned it on and he was about 8 feet from me. We both freaked out and went in opposite directions

Believe it or not, I have actually stepped on two does while walking through the woods. Having the ground move underneath you is much more freaky than walking up on one at night.

Running into hogs at night is only second to a jumping a covey of quail in scariness. Instant man card check that I lose every time.
Eta: damn i knew it didnt look right when I typed it out but I honestly did not even know better.

I try to wait them out. A lot of times if you snort wheeze at them they'll leave

I just leave when I'm ready after dark. Usually the deer don't notice if I'm quite. Many mornings before daylight I have slipped into a box stand with deer feeding 75-100 yds down range.
This particular morning one let me get about 20 yds and snorted, crashed off thru the brush. As bright as this moonhas been since dusk last night don't know what I'll see. I saw a nice buck here at dark thirty.

Good thread. We've got the same problem on our place where the deer show up late and stay a while after dark. There's just no way to wait them out. I either bark while I'm in the stand to get then out or I just get out without a light and start walking

I have walked right past them bedding on trails that go to the stand. I walked up on a big sow while bow hunting once, I try not to use a light if I have enough moonlight. I saw something about 5 yds to my left, cut the light on, and there she was. Scared the shite out of me. 3 weeks ago, I'm hunting my millennium tree seat at the end of a ridge finger that dropped off on all three sides. As soon as dark came, an 8 pt walked down the ridge I was on. He got right behind my tree and I popped out around the tree and could damn near poke him with my rifle. He was going to see me as soon as he got even with the tree anyway, being that the ridge was only about 10 feet wide and the tree I was against was smack in the middle. He blew, ran 20 yds, and stopped for a minute, then walked off.

I love seeing deer while hunting but it never fails....won't see much all afternoon then boom, right at dark they will come on out and start grazing 40 yards from my stand. Some at our camp will just get off but I typically like to wait them out and hopefully they will atleast move to the further end of the plot.

Put your stand in the woods that they travel through to come into the plot. They hang out in the woods until dark... I'd rather hunt the woods anyway, just like I prefer to hunt ducks in the timber.
