I’ve killed 7 timber rattlers on my property in the past 2 years. Everyone of them have been bigger than 4 ft as well. I have a 2 and 3 year old toddler and 2 k9’s I do personal protection work with so if you figure out the secret to keeping them away let me know as well.
I try to keep the property clean of all debris and I’m on the lookout to get a badass outdoor cat.

We had a bluetick coon hound get hit in the neck while pregnant, she had a baseball size knot on her neck for a while but survived naturally and delivered the pups.

One went on to become a night champion

The ole man wasn't much on taking dogs to the vet at the time

She loves to stick her nose in the brush. Beagle/Dachshund mix, so she's inquisitive.

Eff a rattlesnake

Dogs handle venomous much better than humans. I would just monitor for the next few days. Vets make a ton of money off antivenom so they love to administer it.

She's doing well, up and around. On a mix of benadryl, methadone and hydrocodone. She's not feeling any pain. They didn't administer antivenom. They said only for rattlesnakes as it's very expensive and has issues of its own.

Damn, glad your dog is doing okay. Better be careful when you start weaning him off those drugs he liable to turn into Cujo when he can’t get his fix.

Cottonmouth. Dog will be fine. Give him some benadryl or something and give him 3-4 days

Dogs are amazingly resilient to venom (unless it's a rattlesnake)

She got popped on the tip of the nose but doesn't even look that swollen. I was going to wait and see, but the wife wouldn't let it go. At the vet now.

always best to be careful

if i recall correctly they dont have much blood in the nose so hopefully it didnt get into his bloodstream or it could have killed him

Are those a protected species in Louisiana like they are in Texas. Had one at the camp recently and didn’t know they were protected in Texas. Not saying I killed it but it didn’t survive.

Crazy as it sounds, all snakes native to MO are protected and it is technically illegal to kill them unless you are threatened by a venomous one. I’ve been threatened by several large copperheads on our place. Largest was 34” long.
