Resolution of the case is he will be getting a class C misdemeanor ticket in addition to an $800 "donation" to the conservation fund which seems pretty damn steep to me. Ol baw advised that my brother could also do community service in lieu of paying the conservation fund donation but that won't work because it's several hours away.

They could have hit him with well over $1000 in civil restitution for an illegally taken deer. Those 2 guys from Port Barre that killed that deer in Thistlethwaite and didn't tag it could have faced over $2000 in civil restitution.

That's not a bad deal in my opinion.

ETA: In that Port Barre case, the guy admitted to killing the deer without having a primitive weapon license (had a big game license). He had his buddy tag the deer. Possession of an illegally taken deer is a fine of $400 to $950 and up to 120 days in jail. Failing to tag the deer carries a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail. Failing to possess a basic and big game license each carry up to a $50 fine.

So really, he was already looking at anywhere from $500 to $1400 just in fines for the violations of hunting without a license and failing to follow tagging requirements. Tack on a potential civil restitution of $2000...

He came out smelling like a rose.

$800 "donation"... realistically you should minus the cost of the license he should have bought and think of the amount of money that way.

Oh yeah, he could have saved himself over $700 by having a license and tagging the deer.

But that warden being nice (shocker) is going to save him a lot more based on recent cases.

So your bother got lawyer advice to ignore things but instead he called up the warden and confessed?

No offense but I won't be confiding where I bury my bodies to your brother. He may fold under questioning.

Warden is just doing his job so I don't fault him at all. Not to mention there was in fact a guilty party in this. Plus, he gets to close out a case and he's a newbie from what I gather.

Not at all. He didn't know if the warden had trailcams or maybe texts implicating him etc. The ignoring things was just an option....and a poor option IMO.

This thread makes me feel great about my Florida lifetime sportsman license for $1000. Literally don't have to worry about this shite ever in the state.

Op, id say your bro should be happy about it. Not sure how he could expect less unless he just kept quiet like his lawyer recommended lol.

You see, this is what I bitch about. First gotta show off the deer on facebook and instagram like a 14 year old girl. That's bad enough.

Then a damn lawyer tells him to move on, but is vag starts to itch so he calls green jeans and turns himself in.

Once again, I look forward to the population cleansing plague, and hope your brother is patient zero.
