So he shot a deer without a license then proceeded to post a picture of it on social media before buying a license? Holy crap man kick some common sense into this kid.

I have a lifetime license, but given if I decided to hunt without a license and shoot something the first thing I'd do is buy a damn license. Then, if someone wanted to post it online you post it online.

He should delete everything from online and buy a license, well buy a license first. Then shut up and move on until he hears from the GW again. Or as said, talk to a lawyer and turn himself in. Its going to cost him a couple grand at least though and as said he may lose a gun and his hunting privileges for a couple of years. It will also show up on his criminal record.

shite, I strike up a conversation with them all the while asking them what they'd like to see. It isn't like I'm giving up my 4th amendment rights. I joke when I haven't caught shite. Being legal is easy. I try to be friendly because they have a hard job and deal with dickheads a lot more than I could take. But they also aren't stalking me and I've probably ran into 5 in the last 10 years.

Just out of curiosity, why don't you engage them in conversation?

I'd tell him to delete that FB post, first of all.

If the agents have already seen the picture, all this will do is serve as incriminating evidence, or at least create reasonable suspicion.

"Why did you delete that picture from Facebook?"

I would tell your little brother to get a lawyer and fess up. Put it behind him now or it will just get worse.

No need to waster money on a lawyer if he wants to tell the truth.

I don’t understand the people telling him to call and confess. They don’t have any proof of anything 3 weeks after the fact, they’ve got nothing but a word of mouth or else he’d know. Do y’all think they will go easy on him for “doing the right thing” or something, because I doubt it. Go buy a license, delete all social media pics, just don’t tell a GW anything.

If you haven't done anything wrong, why not? I always try to be friendly with them and ask what kind of success other people were having and what bait the fish are biting on. Most wardens are friendly baws if you aren't breaking the law and have no problems sharing info like that.

Ya'll do realize that your license is date stamped when you buy it, right?

Terrible advice. The system tracks all license sales anyway, so they could figure it out.

They probably already know he doesn't have a license.

Not trying to say I condone his outlawing, but if the processer has a legally tagged deer in his possession, the kid needs to keep his mouth shut from here on out.
If not, the processor is just as guilty for taking an untagged deer.

I heard they are seeing pics on social media then checking to see if the bragger called his/her kill in.

If not you may get a visit

Has OP said whether the buddy tagged the deer? I would assume this was the reason for the buddy turning the deer in.

Only thing that makes sense is that they suspect he killed the deer because of the Facebook post, and already know he doesn't have a license.

No way they give him a break because he confesses to it. They catch guys all the time that immediately fess up to illegal activities. I doubt the "I didn't realize my license was expired" argument works here either.

Of course, I'm not saying they can say he shot the deer legally. But he should have bought a license anyway, its absurd to not buy a license too.

You delete the pic off Facebook because it makes it harder for the GW's. Maybe they simply saved a link somewhere to check on, deleting the link may make it too much of a PITA for them to work more on. Sure they can track it down, but WILL they? Its not like one poached deer is worth spending hours and hours of work on most likely in the middle of hunting season when they have other work to do.

I'd say you better just delete the picture entirely. Facebook, computer, phone...everywhere. Otherwise, nothing is stopping them from just coming to you for it.

And then that's a bad look to say the least. If they've raised questions about the picture, and you delete it, you might as well confess. You're just making yourself look guilty of something. Why else would you delete the picture?

So the brother doesnt have a license. The camp must be lying to the game warden, and then of course you have a tagged deer going to the processor where the tag is not the one that harvested a deer. About right? I didnt read the thread.

Little brother needs to go fall on his sword before a whole lot of folks trying to cover for him get heat.

This right here. If the buddy tagged the deer, they could go after him as well. Maybe bro gets lucky and they don't nail his buddy along with him if bro confesses.
