New boater multi question:

looking into the 1710. 90hp yamaha, what trolling motor? It came with a 36 volt minn kota edge (I don’t remember the specs dealer has been a little eh) offered a minn kota ultrex with spot lock.

Concerns: Weight limit only 650 for all persons gear tackle dogs

What am I missing, this layout vs CC or gator tough?

Anyone have advice?

Will be used in TX lakes and LA bayous. Bass mainly. Will need a Bimini top so added weight there

Also the 36volt setup seems excessive?

Thanks

G3 looks like a solid setup minus their standard trailer

Power poles anyone?

Lithium battery, 24 is plenty, Bimini may add 40#, upgrade to Al trailer, enjoy.

I have had one of these for 3 years. I really like the boat and the motor. No issues. The only knock I can think of are the little latches that keep your compartments/ rod box closed are kinda crappy.

I have one of these on it. I like it too.

Is that really the weight limit? I have exceeded that by at least 200lbs with people, dog and duck hunting gear and did not come close to sinking or dying.

I havr the standard trailer. It's serviceable, but kinda rinky dink. My boat stays in the boat house 95% of the time so I don't really use the trailer much.

I recommend the G3. It's a great boat

I’ve got a 2008 17’SC that’s been a great boat. Unless things have changed since then I will add that it’s not the driest riding boat out there.

I don't have a G3, but they are nice looking boats
I have a 24v on a 21 foot bay boat and it does great unless I'm fishing a big bay with lots of wind. If you have a 36v with spot lock you may be able to do without the power poles. I don't have a power pole and have been doing fine without it for going on 6 years now. I think they would be nice to have mainly for keeping my boat in place overnight at the camp, and I'm sure I'd find other ways to use it if I had it. If you can, I'd drop down to a 24v and put the extra money on a PP, or just add the PP later if you find you need it.

This link has a bunch of good information on trolling motor sizing

If you can afford the Ultrex, go with that, especially if you like to sacalait or bream fish at all. You'll need the 36v for the Ultrex, especially for big open lakes. PP is ok, but I found I used spot lock way more than the PP.

I have a 2017, 17CC Gator Tough. Great boat Yamaha starts great every time. 70hp motor will do 32mph wide open. 28 at 3/4 cruising is plenty for me.

I will say. I had a lot of issues with the aluminum trailer having cracks form on the welds. But I used my boat A LOT down gravel roads with bumps. Greenwell Springs Marine fixed the trailer every time even sending it to a fab guy.

I tested one out 2 years ago. Was pretty nice. My complaints were everything on the one I tested seemed to rattle and not the best fit and finish. The ride in chop was the worst of the three I tested. G3, Lowe, Tracker. I ended up with a Lowe Roughneck 1860. That said, my buddy who fishes the river with me (bought in 2022) and he loves it. Its a 17 footer I think.

Seems excessive to me. A 24v should be more than enough for that boat.

I had a G3 1810 with a 115 Yammy. Put an 80 lb Fortrex on it and it was more than adequate.

They offered it to me as part of negotiations but I can’t match it to what’s on the web. It’s like $1150.

The ones I see are all $2,000 plus

Quick question re big open lakes and higher voltage…

Well, perhaps the question is that, why for big open lakes

My understanding is these trolling motors rapidly loose battery (less than 5 hours) under use. Any benefits to 36volt/does that affect wiring for electronics etc or completely separate?

36 volt I guess it depends on how to rig it. I believe the boat only holds 3-4 batteries

Do you have the standard bear trailer? I heard the trailers are pretty terrible. I too will be off-roading with it.

Thanks for this

Wild weight limit isn’t it? Thanks for real world advice.

I think so. Yes.
I wish I went with a galvanized one. But a light boat is gonna bounce a lot. I feel confident I would have had zero issues if I was not travelling several miles down a gravel road twice a week for 3 months during deer season.

I have a 24v ultrex on my glass boat with no issues. 36v for this aluminum boat is way over kill.

This sounds just like me. Best trailer option if you were to do it again? The standard trailer just seems terrible
