Lol they gave it to him for Christmas!!! Might as well have a sense of humor about it!
I personally know of three people that have been bitten and one who died,, I’m not scared of them but I don’t feel sorry for a snake that gets killed. All of the ones who were bit were not trying to handle them or provoke them they were just ambushed . I’ll deal with the mice and rats!!

The pattern of the bands tells all in this case. Cottonmouth.

That's what I get for not zooming in. Ya'll are correct, people posting here are without a doubt more knowledgeable than me on snakes. Good to see the replies on this thread.

The yellow tail tip is the easiest for me to tell. I think juvenile copperheads may have that too, but they don't have the dots in the pattern?

Yes both copperheads and cottonmouths have yellow tipped tails as juveniles

This is a cottonmouth

100% juvenile cottonmouth/water moccasin. Unless she has other health issues and receives proper medical care, full recovery is likely. Even if she doesn't receive advanced medical care, recovery would be likely.

Yeah she may not die,, but it will be a miserable ordeal. This is my other buddy who got bit about three years ago 12-14in long cottonmouth on his heel . Spent 2-3 days in the hospital and I don’t remember how many doses of antivenin. I want to say the hospital bill was up in the 185k mark. People who act like it’s no big deal have never been close to someone who has had to deal with it
I’ll deal with the rats and mice!!

Do they administer anti-venom for a cottonmouth bite? I know several people that have been bit by cottonmouths and were sick as a dog for a day or two but otherwise fine with no medical treatment. I didn’t think they gave anti-venom.

I’d get one made from the snake that bit me. Constant reminder of who won in the end

Hoss, I've been bit by a cotton mouth before, was age 14 (1982), didn't get any antivenom, foot swelled up to the size of a football, it went down and I was fine.

The pic look doesn't look bad at all.

If needed they do. Not sure of the percentage that gets it but it's some pretty bad venom compared to others.

So I’ve never given antivenom for a moccasin bite. Now a canebreak bite had me working overtime to get antivenom infused. Any rattlers is similar. I’ve never seen a copperhead bite.

In case anyone was unsure, don't be friends with OP, unless you want to get bit...

Seriously though, hope the bite victim(s) comes out ok. The antivenom bills sound scarier than the bite.

This was when she first got to the hospital for treatment. 6 vials of antivenom at $10k per vial. Was transferred to larger hospital where they had more antivenom.

no new pictures or updates since then.
