Ive got a FAS1 gun safe with a simplex lock. One morning I woke up and the combination no longer worked (or I forgot it). I tried the manufacturer of the safe and he said I could try every possible combination (no thanks) or get a locksmith to "drill it out".

Im in Baton Rouge and looking for a recommendation of a locksmith that would do such a thing. Any ideas?

They dont have a master combination that they can send you?

most safe manufacturers keep a special combination based on the serial number of the safe to send you if you somehow lose it.

You have to get a form notarized and send it in along with some $$ and they will get you the combination.

Ebay has videos on safe lock picking.

Maybe you can find suitable.

Unfortunately no. I was emailing with the guy that makes the safes and he pretty much said to rule out every combo that it couldn't be and then work through the rest. That or drill the lock out.

this guy - https://www.youtube.com/c/lockpickinglawyer/videos probably has a video describing how to pick or defeat whatever lock you are having issues with.

Go get hypnotized. Make sure your hypnotist doesn't like guns.

Go to youtubes and search for "open simplex lock". There are a few videos that will show the way in. These will most likely damage the lock.

That’s bullshite. This happened to me, they had the combination on file via serial number. Keep calling back until you get a competent employee on the phone.

There’s a guy in Lafayette that sells safes and he can get into them also. Maybe reach out to safe dealers in your area.

Give Alford Safe and Lock a call. They might be able to help you over the phone.

I don't think you guys know how a simplex lock works. And why in the world would you leave it as the default setting from the manufacturer?

Depending how many buttons OP has on his lock, there really aren't that many combos. Probably less than 1000.

Do you really not know anything about your combo?

I believe there are around 1000 as you say. When I first found this issue, I did have some recollection of the combo. Its been a year since then and ive completely forgotten. But at the time, I tried around one hundred that I thought would work. None did. Thats why I thought there was an issue with the lock itself. It had been sticking in a strange way several months prior to it not working.

I dont believe that ill ever get the combo myself. Im not sure it can even be "picked" at this point. Im ok with destroying the lock and replacing it. I just want access to this gun and some valuables I have inside.

Ive got another gun for that purpose but I dont like not having it in a safe. Ive got a young daughter. Id like to go back to having my 9mm in the safe next to my bed.

Big screwdriver for prying and a big hammer for smashing. It's more childproof than burglar proof.

I thought simplex locks had a huge fault in that they could easily be opened using a strong-ish magnet to defeat them. YouTube it. Also, good thing you didn't need the gun...
